My wife and the wife of a friend want to do a basic firearms handling/gun safety class together. How cute!

My wife isn't a complete gun noob (she's fired several of mine, but of course she likes the AR best), but it wouldn't hurt for her to start from square one. I don't know what experience level my friend's wife has, so I'm assuming it's about zero.

Anyway, does anyone have a recommendation for a good class? I know there are many out there, but I don't know how good any of them are.

I'd start 'em off with the DNR's basic firearms safety class. Check the MN DNR web site for scheduled classes. If it doesn't show anything in your area, ask at the local sportsman's club. Not all classes are posted on the web site.

Bill's Gun Shop has a Handgun Familiarization class that is really good.  It is a very broad overview of firearms with an emphasis on safety, not hunting.

I also recommend Sully's Handgun 1, but it may not be as "intro" as what you are looking for.

As much as I'd like to put the ladies through Handgun I, they probably aren't ready for it. Maybe by summertime...

I was wondering about the class at Bill's - it's conveniently located, so I'll probably send them to that one.

Do they do rentals, or should I send one of my Sigs along with them?

YES....Bill's does rentals. Glocks, Sigs, HK's, XD's, Para, Springfield, Kimber, etc.... You can get more info here: Bills G.S.
Thier handgun familarization is a very good class. If they also feel more comfortable with a female instructor have them ask for Teresa at Bills, as she does an excellent job. They also have an Intermediate and an Advanced course too.
Sully's Handgun 1 is a good course too. You can get more info on Sully's class here: Defensive Edge

Good luck and let us know what you decide and how they enjoyed it.

I took the basic at Bills with Teresa this summer.  (I'm a noob!)  It was a good experience.  You don't need to bring anything.  Teresa will have a nice variety ready for you.  9mm, .22, .38 revolver.  It was 90 bucks or so for the course, guns and ammo.  Pretty good.

Bills is crazy busy on Saturday afternoons, try going on a weekday and you will have plenty of time for Mr. Bill to let you try on 20 handguns before you choose one to rent.
