Got bored one day, thought I'd see how the various .45 makes performed.

Federal HST
Remington Golden Saber
Winchester SXT
Hornady TAP
Speer Gold Dot
CorBon

All were 230 grain, fired from a Sig GSR 5" into 1 gallon water jugs.

The Federal, Winchester, Remington and Hornady passed thru 3 jugs stopping in the 4th.
The Gold Dot didn't quite make it to the 4th, did score the surface tho.
The CorBon went thru 2, and most of the fragments were in the 3rd.

Shot into a row of gallon water jugs, not the most scientific test, but gives a good idea.

When I get some more time I have some 165 and 230 grain Federal Hydra Shok to try.

Glad you guys like the pics

Awesome pics.

Now, when are we going to see you on the training range again?

Ok, I'll play too.

It's not a .45, but I thought it was cool.

This is a .40 cal Tactical Hydrashock, I cant find the box so I am unsure of the grain.  I had four or five, 1 gallon milk jugs lined up against each other.  I can't remember how far back I was standing but I would guess at least twenty feet. The bullet went through all except the last, which it stuck into, hanging on by the little nipple on the end.  There was no leaking until I pulled the bullet out and water  just started to pee out.    I wish I had a camera to get a pick right after it happened.  I don't think I could even replicate that scenario again.

THanks for the pics!

Have they been authorized by Fedgunner?

I think clearly the  the best deal is getting the Federal stuff from Streichers.  They have 50 ct boxes for what a fellow pays for 20ct boxes!  Why buy anything else!  All the testing in the world is negated by the fact that real world shootings are dynamic.  One can not always count of target standing still, nor having solid COM shots. Look at us now as we bundle up for the winter here in MN!

I personally have seen failure of bullets when caught up in the heavy leather coats people wear in the winter, the rounds were fired at PB range!  They gave the guy nothing more then a welt like getting shot while wearing a ballistic resistant vest!  Then again I have seen HS drop a guy dead in his tracks!  DRT! The bullet shredded his left ventricle.  Poor fellow, NOT!  Then I saw the same bullet in seperate situation cause nothing more then a through and through wound that did not stop the guy, but it did allow the LEO to subdue the victim.

Go with function in a firearm, and then hope for the expansion of name brand bullet!

Only three things matter in defensive shootings:

1)  Shot placement
2)  Shot placement
3)  Shot placement

Caliber and ammo type are about 20th on the list.

Still, for my money, tough to beat Federals ammo, specifically the HST rounds.

WOW!  I hope you get bored more often.  Fantastic post.  Look at that Federal HST, beautiful yet deadly.
