[bleeding heart liberal] But, but, Tookie was convicted on marginal evidence and most of it circumstantial!!! [/bleeding heart liberal] LMFAO!!
I think that with today's technology there is a definite improvement on convictions. I'm all for the death penalty in today's world. DNA evidence, better forensics, etc., is unparalleled. Should Tookie die ?? Well, based on the evidence, yes. They way I look at it with the older cases is that they shouldn't have put themselves in a position to even be suspected of a crime and their life would be happy now. But, he did.
I would like to see the death penalty changed a bit. Instead of the numerous appeals, court appearances, etc, you get ONE chance after the initial conviction and sentencing. I would like to see the cases be resolved with two years. It costs the taxpayer approximately $50K per year per inmate and personally, I'm quite tired of footing the bill for so long. Modern forensics definitely plays a part in my attitude. Too bad evidence collection was in it's infancy when he was convicted, but c'est la vie.
