Delays generally happen with someone who has your name goes and does something bad... The delay is them punching in the social, etc. Up front, it looks bad, but it takes time to dig... At least that's my understanding. It helps if you have a name like Fore Jeoirocw or something; kinda hard to mistake |

Your time is coming.... My name is far from common. All kinds of things can trigger a delay I am told. Can even be the result of trying to call in at a busy time of day or season. I find it humorous to see the reaction some people have when they get a delay, especially for the first time. They often get really bent out of shape because there is a possible accusation of criminal history by being delayed. Not the case, just a minor inconvenience. |
| I was delayed one time. I was actually LEO at the time, and buying a simple hunting rifle, I don't have a "normal" name, and I have no criminal history. The guy told me that sometimes the call center is just too busy to do all the checks, and they would delay for that reason. One business day later he called and told me I was good to go. |
I did the same. Picked up my 1911 Monday morning, then bought a Ruger Super Six minutes later, no problem. There is a form though if you buy more than three handguns in one month that the seller is to supply to the ATF. |
