One Quick question about getting a CCW in MN.  How hard is it to get a permit to carry after the class is done and you turn your paper work in?  I gess what I mean is what kinds of things will get me turned down when I apply?  Not that I'm trying to get around the law or anything I'm just trying to prevent myself from making a stupid mistake when I apply.
thanks for the help

If you apply for the Permit to Purchase (it is free) and get aproved, I was told that you most likely will get aproved of the Permit to Carry.  It is like a test, if you don't get aproved of the permit to purchase, well, don't even bother with the CCW stuff.  With the carry permit it is a better backgroud check, but it cost $100 for the carry permit and free for the purchase permit.  That is what my classroom teacher for the CCW class told us if we were worried about not getting the OK.

I think the background check is  like the questions on the 4473 (are you a fugitive, are you an illegal alien, and so on, and so on...)

If you are eligible to get a permit by law, then you will get the permit.  By definition, that is what "shall-issue" legislation means.  IE:  if you are eligible to purchase firearms and pass the NICS check, then you will likely pass the CCW BG check unless you have local criminal record or charges pending.

Since you already have a purchase permit all you should have to worry about now is how long the county you live in wants to drag out the issue time.  I believe they have 30 days to get it to you.  I have heard mixed things of what happens after that 30 days, so I best leave that to someone who knows for sure.

One thing I noticed about the paperwork I filled out for my carry permit is that it was about half of what they gave me for my purchase permit.  Although the Sheriffs office did have some of their own stuff tacked on to the purchase permit.  BTW, mine cost $90, and took em less than 20 days to get it to me.

I believe if they go all the way to 30 days, then the law requires them to issue a permit.

How long it takes depends on the county, and whether or not they're gun friendly. There are other factors to, such as what their process is for deailing with applications.  I suspect they all stack up in an inbox someplace, and on one or two days in a month they just process all of them.

I got mine in 7 days including the mail. I think I got it in just before they pulled the stack and started going through it.

I think your right about the 30 days.  Your probably right with how they process the applications too.  I noticed the date on which mine was processed and it was mailed out right away after that.  It just took them about a week to get to it.

The metro counties sure seem to drag their feet! Hennepin County took all thirty days on mine!
