I'd like to thank mcnielsen for his help and tools othewise I'd still be stuck with a bunch of unused parts.
(pics are clickable)

YHM free float tube, (yes it is spaced out,  but it is so it totally covers the gas block), Magpul rail covers.

I've got a PRI Biglatch, Tangodown vertical grip, and a CQD HK sling mount coming soon to complete it.  Then I'll see how everything fits together and cut the panels to fit.  I've also got an ambi-catch on back order with Magpul.  I hope it comes in soon.

I purchased a 5 slot Phantom when I have time and money to send the barrel off.  16" I can just have threads right?  No need for blind pin & weld?  Also figured if I do that I'd like to get a little weight shaved off under the handguards too.

Looks Beautiful, Jakezor!!!

What, U don't like the HBAR profile after running & gunning with it?  I can't stand it either...

With any luck I should be able to afford finishing *MY* rifle build sometime in June (hoping mcnielsen will let me use his tools, too)...  Finally I'll be fit to serve as mod here again soon!

Let us see it again when you're done with it!

Depends....I think when they thread a barrel you usually loose a little on the end, so it's hard to thread a 16" barrel without it going below 16".  Talk to Randy, he might be able to pull it off.   It might also be cool to chop it to 14.5" and perm attach the Phantom, but that'll probably add $100 to the cost, almost to the point of just getting a new barrel and selling the old one....Especially if you want to turn the barrel down.

How do you like the Eotech that far forward?

ADCO will perm attach your phantom for 30 bucks and 4 bucks shipping. Randy wanted over $60

Where is the barrel measured from?  The extension, the chamber, start of the rifling?
Maybe I should just buy a new barrel.  Then I might as well buy a new upper!  damn this black rifle disease

Inuh - Exactly,  I wanted to shed some weight on this thing, and the big aluminum tube and hbar under the guards was the first thing I thought of.  Those 1 handed drills were killer.  I can't imagine doing that with a fal!

back40 - it seems pretty good,  but I intend on trying it out in a couple of spots once I get some range time.  Honestly I just slapped it on there to see how it looked up front.

I thought I heard something of reflex sights being 'faster' aquisition the further forward they are.  Any truth to that?

Yes.

Looking good Jake. Now you need some irons on that puppy

Yeah I know,  sometime.   If they weren't so damn expensive.   Plus the YHM rail is slightly lower than the flattop,  that could cause some confusion.

It is my understanding that you close the bolt, stick a rod in and measure it out to the longest piece of permanently attached piece of gear.

This is one reason why people don't permanently attach Vortex or similiar pronged flash hiders, if you break off the last prong on a < 16" barrel, you're in trouble.

When it rains it poors.

I've read that too...You'll have to let all us try it out though so we can see for ourselves!

I did Sully, at the little get together we had at Princeton on the 14th.  It shot great,  but I do need to sit down on a bench and get it dialed again.  I can't wait to try it out at another carbine weekend!

July we will have another 2-day Carbine Course on a weekend in MN.  Otherwise I am putting together a 2-day Carbine during weekdays for a couple of people that need a work up before they go to the sand box.  I will keep everyone informed.

It turned out pretty slick. Should be much easier on you at class.

Did you ever find BUIS for it?

Not enough money yet.

Plus I need to do some investigatory work,  either my flattop is a tiny bit tall,  or the handguard rails are short.  Either way,  it doesn't line up as is,  and I think that could make it difficult to setup irons.

Are you thinking you might need to mix and match to get it to work? How major is the difference?

Jake, you would just have to dial down the front sight a bit and it'll work no problem.

Check out EE for deals on BUISs.  There's tons of options.

You sly devil

I like the looks of the Larue A1 stale rear sight myself. However, if you are looking at major adjustments needing to be made to compensate for the rail height difference, then maybe an A2 style will fit your needs better.
