Just thought I would give a heads up to anyone in the western (or far western) suburbs like me.

Through information found in the Minnesota forum I heard about a little range out by Hutchinson, Gopher Campfire Range.  I did a lot of looking and couldn't find anymore info, so I finally found time to go out to Little Crow Gunshop in Hutch (their store hours are not real friendly 9-5 M-F, less on Sat, closed on Sun).  Anyway, the guy at Little Crow (owner?) was real friendly and answered all my range questions:

- $25/year fee for you and your "family members"
- No range Cadre, for the most part
- No rules on calibers (that he knew of)
- No volunteer work required.
- Range hours 8am - 10pm all year round (outdoor range)
- Memberships purchased right there at Little Crow

So I bought in.  I went out to the range, and read all the signs I could find, and as far as I could tell his info was right (didn't see any crazy rules on the signs, other than usual safety stuff).

There is a 100 yrd rifle range with a permanent covered shooting area, with around 10 stations (cement U shaped individual professional style benchs, not picinic tables like some).  There was a storage shed with different sized chairs so you could adjust them to fit yourself to the benches.

A pistol range which I didn't realy check out, appeared to be about 50 yard max, and had a permanently covered area with what appeared to be similarly set up lanes as the rifle range.

And a trap or skeet (I don't know much about shotgun shooting) style range off to one side as well.

I was there for about 3 hours on Saturday, for only a little bit of the time I was there two other people came out.  Most of the time it was just me.  One guy seemed to be an organizer of events, and said they had different matches schedule all summer long.  Sounded mostly like .22/rimfire stuff, and primarly for fun.

Overall it was a nice quiet range were nobody bothered anyone.  Or no one yelled at anybody for rapid fire, blah, blah.   It was a nice little range.

It did appear to be a campground as well and I saw some playground equipment in the back area.  So I am guessing it gets a little busy in the summertime with familys and camping .

Just thought it might be nice for those that live in the west metro to know about.  Since there really isn't anything else out here.

Kory.

I've been very happy with it.  I've been a member there for over 3 years.

Yup,  I'm on my second year of being a member there.  When the weather warms up I'm normally there more than my wallet can afford here
The pistol range is only about 25 yards long, with one bay being covered and the other open.  No target holders on either so plan on bringing something.  I've been trying to think up a good setup that would allow shots at multiple ranges but my mind has been drawing a blank on this one.  Even if I did come up with something it would need to be run by the board of directors before anything could be built.

If you see a regular cab F150 with a toolbox on it it's probably me.  Give me a holler and we can shoot the bull.
