This is going to be a good one guys. Here is a brief overview from Sully.

Handgun 2 will start at approximately 08:00am and run for 7-8 hours or so.  It covers a quick review of fundamentals, 3 types of jamb clearing, combat reloads, tactical reloads, positional shooting, distance shooting, movement shooting in all directions (forward/back/sideways), one handed reloads and malfunctions, and an intro to flashlite techniques.  A minimum of 300rds ammo, handgun, holster, a couple of mags, flashlite, hat/sunblock/bugspray. Cost is $110

I'm sure I'll see Fedgunner there Who else is up for it?

I had chuncks of stuff falling out of my Kimber when I cleaned it last night (mud, sand, crap from the Wolf ammo). The rear sight has most of it's finish rubbed off. Presumably from the one handed jam clearing. And today my knees feel like they are on fire. Yep it was a great class

Quinlan,
"PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY"!!!
It also let you know you're alive!!!  Once we get all that finished rubbed off the 1911, I know of a Great Gunsmith that can OD-green it for you, and he has been talking about doing tiger stripe stuff as well.  On the sore knees, go to a cub foods and look in the jello section for Nutra-Joint in a orange&white box (made by Jello).  Get the flavored stuff (as the unflavored is nasty).  Drink a double mixture and you will be ready for more range time the next day.  Great Stuff, as I occasionally have to give it a run myself.

QuinlanV- where did you get your Wolf- SportsmansGuide.com? Were you able to pick up in S. St. Paul?  They have a good price on Blazer 9 and .40. Shipping kills the deal though.

Time for a quick review:

Hit Princeton and it was raining hard enough for the second launching of the ark.
(I just know Fritz was cleaning a gun or sorting ammo)

Got to the range and the rain had pretty much stopped, made a mess but rain suit not needed.

Sully got us loosened up a bit, fast reviews and tweaks of fundamentals.

Now the fun started. Movement, forward, backward, side to side. And many variations on each.

Next came one hand work. Just in case you get shot in the hand or sumthin. We learned how to clear up to a level 2 jam with one hand tied behind our backs. We were taught several methods and given time to find out what worked for us.

Vertical translation: Kneeling, sitting, prone, squatting. and doing sit-ups: (On this one I had to make  a promise to God  to back off on the beer).

I had an odd feeling all day that I had done this before and Why was Sully showing me again? DOH! I received alot of it in the 2-day carbine class last year. and in all honesty, never applied it to my hand gun.   Sully rectified that lack of common sense on my part.

"Let's do lunch" About half an hour to grab some calories, talk about gear and guns, complimenting each other on not shooting ourselves in the hand and rehydrating.

Back at it.

All day we had been working steel at 25 yards.. So Sully takes us to 50 yds...We all bang steel... Ok.. out to 75.. I got lucky.. hit on the first shot and holstered, we all banged steel.
Ok out to 100  yards. There were 5 of us and it took about 3 shots to hear the distant "ding". One of us had a .357 SIG and nailed it in one... the rest of us struggled a bit more.

Flashlight work
Yah... By this time the sun has been out for a couple hours, but as Sully stated, "It's kind of hard to explain this to someone in the dark". We were taught several different styles and practiced each. It was a good thing we did. I found that if I did it the "best" way, I consistantly retarded my slide or hit my mag release. I settled on a way to work with flash light that offers some support, just not all you would like.

Finished the day with a Q & A and a bit of free fire on the steel. Played with everyone elses gun and shot the breeze.

The day on the whole from my perspective.
Well today I look a bit like a freshly prepared lobster. The sun felt so good! I knew it couldn't hurt me!
If Sully says 300 rounds bring at least 400. We all shot over the course suggested load out. If you are instructed to do something and that is all you do, you will be fine.... but  Sully always asks, "Anybody want to go again?"  Our group did... alot.
If you want to keep your "Acme Wondergun" in show room condition... stay home.(Quinlan filled his rear sight with mud, came back on-line and dropped his target.) Sully teaches you how to gunfight and survive.. all else is optional.
I personally think that Handgun 2 was worth EVERY GODDAM penny of the advertized course fee!

And I'm proud to state that NONE of us shot ourselves in the hand!

edited to add: Happy birthday Death451 !!

death451,

Why don't you attend on the house since it is your birthday, but you will have to bring an MRE Pound Cake to help celebrate.

Sully, I just told death451 about your offer and it sounds like he will be there

Anybody else coming? It's about a year since a lot of us took our Handgun 1 class, so it's definitely time to get some serious practice in.

"PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY" I like that
I'll have to give the Nutra-Joint a try. Tiger stripe huh? Now that sounds interesting. I just need some more alumni classes to attend so I can wear the rest of the finish off

Go Blue, I have a friend that sells the stuff wholesale. I generally offer to pick up ammo for board members before organized events. If I can ever help you out just let me know.

Good review Fedgunner. The mud in the rear sight was only a problem for 1 round anyway. After that recoil took care of the problem

beerjager, you do know this is going to haunt you for some time, don't you?
