Been watching youtube some today. How much longer till hogs start moving in on us? Or are they already here in some places?
Also, where do you think they will "breach" our borders at, so I can make friends in that area :D |
| I have a couple game cameras in the woods around my house in Hazard area and I usually see hogs on their 2-3 times a week mainly at night. There is one in particular that shows up a lot it a is huge boar hog that probably weighs 150 lbs give or take. I have saw this hog several times and also a couple sows and maybe smaller ones. I have also saw signs of what I guess is them bedding down. This area is kinda swampy. I would say that they will be on the increase in this area as well |

The pigs are already here in Western Ky. They are just like coyotes, shoot on sight during daylight hours. Really. Where at, I spent 7 hours hiking around my cabin in livingston today, didn't see any or any tracks. Guessing down near cambell? Last thing I read had pigs populations in over half the counties in Kentucky. Muhlenburg couny, in Western Ky, is supposed to have a very large population. There's lots of public hunting on the reclaimed strip mines in that area. Down here near Campbell we're seeing more armadillos than ever before. Did you know that Western Kentucky has a pretty sizable population of pelicans that hang out around the dam at the north end of LBL? Getting lots of wild things coming our way that weren't here before. |

Prob a question best suited for a game warden, but does the 10 round limit count when your out after hogs/ect? I don't have any 10 round mags, and my only 20 rounders are thermolds for range use. Everything else is a 30, and I don't want to modify any of those |

So whats the smallest caliber would take one of these down? When Im hiking in the woods I always carry my Glock 19. And when Im on my farm I usually have my AR on me or within arms reach. Im in Northern KY so I dont expect to see these. At least for now I have seen youtube videos of them being killed(by a girl) with a pistol, a 40 I think. Would I try killing one with a 40? Sure, assuming I had several extra mags on me. But a 556 will kill them, its more about shot placement. I am going to head out someday this week or next to graves and do some scouting. I will post back here with results. I feel a HTF Hunt coming on |
| If I were hunting or in a hog area I would want something a little more stout than 9mm as a primary. I would feel fine with the G19 as a backup to an AR or whatever long gun but for a primary if carrying handgun I would want a 10mm for semiauto or at least a 357mag for wheelgun. I carry a Glock 22 with FMJ when I am in the woods but usually have either an AR, Rem. 870 12 gauge or Rem 700 in 308 depending on what I am hunting. I keep a Rem. 870 in the Razr which is what I am usually out on when out in the woods. |

556 will kill them just fine
check out the HOg hunting forum and see the huge holes skypup blows through 300 pounders with a 556 I believe the mag capacity for hogs is the same as coyotes, not limit on the magazine, bullet type or caliber. thats what was posted up on the website last year anyways |

I will post back here with results. I feel a HTF Hunt coming on I've been on hog hunts where .357mag SW revolvers were used. Those revolvers were loaded with factory loaded .38spl ammo (158gr Lead RN, non +p) and utilized 4" barrels. Granted this was 20+ years ago...but I'm pretty sure Hogs haven't evolved into war-pigs so this info should still be relevant. 9mm handguns will work, its more about shot placement and proper bullet selection (heavier). Winchester makes a 147gr FMJ truncated cone "Win-Clean" ammo would work fine out of a Glock 19 or 17 for hog killing. Aim just behind the ear and remember you don't get bonus-points for bringing home un-used ammo when killing hogs with handguns out in the boonies. Also, out hiking and just being out and about, the chances of stumbling upon an angry hog are about zero. You might hear em' but I'd be very surprised if they actually charged you. They might root around your campsite at night, this would be more likely than encountering a psychotic hog that charges unprovoked. |

Good posts, men. Me, I'd go with the 7.62/.308 Winnie to put 'em down for the count.
BTW: pretty sure Hogs haven't evolved into war-pigs so this info should still be relevant.
nope––not "war pigs" yet for sure, but, DANG––here's something a 700 lb domesticated pig did and gave me the chills: Farmer Eaten by Hogs |

Gonna be some Zombie Hogs at our Zombie Shoot on the 27th in Cave City! |

My property is on the Perry/Breathitt line and I began seeing signs last year and saw the 1st one last fall about this time it was the decent sze boar I spoke of. Then this spring and summer I began seeing signs of little hogs and sows and thn saw them on the cameras. From what I have heard that have camein from W KY so they will proabably Floyd CD in next year or so if I were guessing. |

where in graves and hickman are they seeing these hogs? thats just a very short drive to hickman or graves from my house if i can find out where they are! Reclaimed strip mines is where I heard. Talked to a game warden, he gave me the info, but my ambien walrus took it from me last night. Its about 30 minutes from my place to, I plan on being out there once deer season winds down enough I can stalk without pissing off deer hunters |
