Greetings,

I'm setting-up my first real scope (a Vortex PST 6-24) and am facing 2 problems. First, I don't have a lapping bar and second I don't have a torque wrench (more specifically, one with a 3mm allen key). This shouldn't be a problem since I'm using a 1-piece mount (the Vortex CM-202 cantilever mount) thus making lapping helpful but not necessary, and I think I can use weights to rig-up a poor-man's torque wrench. I could just buy a lapping bar and a torque wrench, but I hate to spend the money, use it once, and then have it waste-away in my toolbox. Shooting isn't my primary hobby, so it will probably be 20-years before I ever set-up another scope.

My question is, does anybody know of a local gunsmith or gunstore that will either lap and torquewrnech the scope/mount for a reasonable price, or rent me the tools for a reasonable price?

P.S. By local, I mean the Louisville area. I don't mind driving say an hour each way either.

Again, I probably do it fine without the tools, but if I can do it right for a reasonable price then all the better!

Thanks,
Mark

For torqueing the ring screws, just grab the short end of a 90 degree allen wrench and tighten it.  Unless you have gorilla strength, you wont over tighten it and should be around 20 inch lbs.

As for the lapping bar, I dont have a quick fix for that.
