Yea.  Was wondering if my wife is good to go in the console yet.

If she can legally possess a firearm she should have been good to go anyway.  Wasn't considered concealed if in factory installed compartment (glove box, console with lid) if it took two moves to get it (ex. open door or lid first to access the firearm).  Where people get in trouble is just sliding under seat or laying in seat with something just covering it (just reach and lay hand on the firearm).   CCDW statute below.

Just states glove box.  Thats what the bill will change.  As of right now it has to be in factory installed glove box on passenger side of vehicle.  No center console according to state law.

When I went through DOCJT, years ago, factory installed console was considered same as glove box.  I can't think of anyone being charged for firearm in console unless it was an enhancement for a drug trafficking offense, although I can only speak for eastern KY.  Other parts of state may not be as cool as us hillbillies.

Console is not considered a glove box.  I can't find the wording now, but it has been discussed at great length before.

I made several calls back years ago to verify when I was "almost" ticketed for having a gun in my console before I had my CCW permit.  The officer was very helpful and kind in letting me off with just a warning at the time, as I truly didn't realize.

That /\ is correct under current law. When I took my CCDW, my instructor actually cited a case where a KY resident was arrested, charged and convicted of having an illegally concealed weapon in his glove box. His case was appealed and his attorneys argued that a modern, factory installed center console is the same thing as a glove box. They lost and the conviction stood.

If you do not have a CCDW permit, do not carry a weapon in your center console!

the "kentucky resident" in question was a gang banger from Louisville, odds are good its completely his fault that case law is what it is now because they wanted to get him so bad they didn't care about your average law abiding joe.

Not sure who the offender was..but it is not considered a factory installed glove box.  Historically located in  the dash.  We talked extensively about it during several of my instructor courses.

Although I think you would be hard pressed to get charged with carrying concealed by the average officer...probably fishing hard if you get charged..lol
