How bad is it where you are.

A lot of trees down!  Standing outside I can hear trees cracking and breaking. Still have power but I can see others without. Damn

Pretty nasty here, I stayed home from school as it wasn't worth driving in for 2 classes.

Cave City    trees down. Neighbor has a huge tree on his house cant tell if there is any damage. I'll try to get some pics up a little later if power is still on.

Lots of snow in NKY. Probably 4-5" so far and they;re predicting up to 10" possibly.

Roads sucked coming into work this AM.  The country roads I travel that had not been touched by road crews were fine.  The main roads that had been plowed were horrible.  They might as well just save the money and not run the plows.  All they did was polish the ice.

I'm in the Hardin Co./Elizabethtown area.

On my way in this morning I had to move some limbs out of the way and drive thru mazes of low hanging trees.

Roads weren't too bad here....mostly slush.  The county did a damn good job.

I got stuck in the middle of the street in front of the house...

No snow, just ice/sleet. Slid in 45 mi. to work. Secretary  didn't make it - worse her way. Very slushy/icy roads. temp at 33F, raining, and will freeze later. I think we'll get snow later tonight. Reminds me of Feb. 14, 2004(?) Ice storm. I was in St. Louis and drove home to Prestonsburg the next day that year.

BTW, Pikeville/Paintsvile area.

I have been to 3 counties in Central Ky by 0930, little front wheel drive didn't miss much of a beat but there are some idiots out there driving. I think its time to get the jeep worked on a little.

Wasn't too bad going from Independence to Downtown Cincy, just take your time.  I'm not looking forward to the drive home though...

UofL was closed today and out here on the east side we have about 3 inches of snow, but minimal ice or trees down.

Western KY here, early am around 5:30 sounded like a war zone in the back fields with trees breaking and falling.  Roads not bad mainly slush. Lot of trees down on the roads with a lot of power out.

It is days like these I regret buying a little Japanese ricer. I should have got a Wrangler.

We got about 3 inches of snow here in Boyd County last night.  Now, the freezing rain has begun.
1/27/2009 10:35:12 AM EDT
[#18]
Freezing rain in Nicholasville now....cleaned car windshield that had 1" of ice build-up. Doors still frozen shut with the  ice. Heating the car by using the remote start.
Stay safe...

i got stuck while i was onsite working today..  i tried for an HOUR to shovel the ice around my tires so i could get out.   never happened i finally had a lady call a couple other guys and we PUSHED my car back onto the road...    we put the car in drive and were able to push it back on to the road (this was basically farm propery i was on.  and i had driven off road to a house and was on grass)

boy i might just be sick tomorrow

lots of ice here. I almost fell as soon as I stepped outside.

as a little test, I placed this 6920 on my deck last night at 10.00PM before bed and left it there until I got home at 500PM from work just to see if it would still work, not that I thought it wouldnt  But I fired the mag in it without incident.  Enjoy pics of my brutality! Oh and the eotech was fine

We all win!

HAHA yeah right

trust me, that pitiful display of what i did was nothing for that rifle. Besides, it was just a litte wet and cold. And some one has to do it right? who else would have tried that stunt?

Apparently you are all living in denial.

Al Gore and the Bamster say we have this thing called Global Warming.

You sure the power loss is not due to melting powerlines and that poping and cracking fron the trees could be due to the fact that they are on fire.

So far its not too bad in my area, 4 or 5" of snow and a light coating of ice.

Havent heard about any power outages yet but I am sure they will be coming.

Ice in Fern Creek outside of Louisville, mostly freezing rain. Still have power in apartment  and cable works as well. My Hatian wife (Mrs. guncrank1 ) will keep my warm.
And no I am not going to freeze test my AR.

The main roads by my house here in Louisville were a frickin' mess. I slide around on the roads a bit on the way in to work this morning. Since my boss is a douche, I'll probably be repeating the process tomorrow on the ice if the forecast holds true.

Everything outside looks covered in ice, right now.

I have had multiple tree limbs down in the yard. One fell on my house and I thought that it had come thru the roof. I was lucky it only damaged the gutters.

[#32]
Damn just got power back on. The power went off about 9:30 am this morning. Several trees down and power lines across the road could not get out either way until 4:00 pm.  The tried to kick the power back on at 1:00 pm and the transformer blew at the substation 2 miles away and it sounded like a canon going off. There are still several  without power. I'll put up some more pics in the morning.

Hope everyone is ok and has no damage.

It's getting pretty bad where I'm at.  Power was off for about three hours, but came back on, but is flickering like crazy.  The news said about 600 people are without power in Boyd.  Tree limbs are falling about every 30 seconds and a huge tree just fell in the hills behind my house.
1/27/2009 8:19:27 PM EDT

I'm at a dealer show in Louisville and need to travel back home to GA tomorrow. My plan was to wait until 9ish to head out so that the sun and snowplows/ice trucks could help clear out the roads.

I'm only traveling interstate 65 down to Nashville and then home from there. Not being from around here- how are the interstates during a storm like this? Are the road crews pretty good about de-icing the roads? It's supposed to stay below freezing most of the day tomorrow.

Hopefully I'm worrying about nothing but wanted some advice from some local arfcommers.

Excellent pictures Nikkinpaul, i got up at 430 this morning and the Amish and i were the only ones with lights on. Had current before sunup though and throughout the day.

       Hope everyone gets through alright.

usually the interstates are good to go.  That being said the whole state shut down for several days during the ice storm of 1994.
1/28/2009 12:45:34 AM EDT
[#37]
My trees are in the process of coming apart. This ice is going to finish off whatever the wind storm weakened.

ETA: I just cleared a branch from the driveway with my Sawzall.
All the while I heard *snap* *crackle* *woosh!* from the neighborhood. The tops fell out of 2 neighbors trees while I watched. It's gonna be an interesting drive in this morning.

Whoopee!  UK just cancelled classes for today so I don't have to drive in to school.  Too bad as I had a couple of practicals but can always make those up later.

Good for you, bad for me.  I am a plan B employee.  For some reason, they consider me essential.

The thermometer in the car said 53F at 07:30, in Pikeville. By the time I got to Paintsville, it was 33F, and US 23 was closed on the north side of town. What a change in 45 miles. Trees down everywhere, some pretty big power outages, radio station down. I was kinda hoping the power would be off so I could close down and go home.

I'm a high school teacher/admin and haven't been to  work this week.

The downside is most of my time has been spent watching Spongebob and Wallace & Gromit.

Nice and quiet here at work. Half the people called in today.

I guess living 2 miles from work and having a 4X4 has its perks or its disadvantages.

My front yard looks like a bomb went off.  I've been without power since about 5pm yesterday.  The local water company's pumps are down, so no water once the tanks run out.

I'm in the e-town area.  At the moment, I've still got plenty of generator gas.

I got sent home early so I've been making good use of my time by doing nothing. Maybe I'll start trimming a couple cans of brass I have sitting here. Dad in Meade Co. has been w/o power since early this morning; line's down right in front of his house. Bro in Richmond lost power some time this morning. I'm nice and cozy with all the lights burning bright. Branches are still falling; one just now.

Here's some pics of the neighborhood:

Our power went out about 0400 this morning, and is still off.  I'm posting this from the the Hilton where my wife works, as they've given us a room since she has to work tonight and in the morning.  So far we've spoken to family members in Lexington, Richmond, and Shelbyville and all are without power.

View from our deck.

There's a car under there somewhere.

Leaving our neighborhood.
