Looks like there is one in Hindman this weekend, one in Somerset Nov 1-2, and another in Lexington on Nov 28-30. www.gunshows-usa.com/kentucky.htm |

IMO: The show in Hindman was a complete waste of time, effort and money. I was there Saturday morning for about 3 hours. There really weren't that many guns for sale, outside of the promoter and another gun store that frequents these shows, it was just a bunch of crabby old guys that didn't really want to sell anything. I'm pretty much done with gun shows in general because, as my buddy put it Saturday morning, "this is definitely a gun show and not a gun sale". Amen to that. Every used gun I looked at was priced out the roof. If you were in the market for something brand spanking new, then there were a few decent deals to be had, mostly at the promoter's table. How these crabby old vendors with tables full of over-priced shotguns or S&W pistols make any money is beyond me. That is the greatest mystery of all to me. Why do these guys bother if they don't even want people to look at there stuff let alone buy it? I took a Model 12 Winchester shotgun to trade on. I was asking $400 for it since it's kind of an oddball. Most people treated me like a criminal when I told them the price. Funny thing is there were guns that were more common and in worse shape on the tables for $600. Ridiculous. Funny thing is, I had that gun appraised about 3 months ago and the appraiser told me it was worth at least that much. It saddens me to no end to see what gun shows have turned into. |

It's not just gun shows. The last couple auctions I've attended have seemed like madness. Prices are through the roof and these are folks actually PAYING the prices, not just asking. Examples: NIB Walther PPK/S - $750 (Buy it today almost everywhere for $489) Nickel-plated Colt M1917 - $900 ($300 shooter) Badly chrome-plated P38 - $700 Non-matching P08 - $850 These are the few that stuck out in my head but I have a couple lists from this year that show the same thing. |

any gun nut would have loved the show
however deals were on the scarce side. i couldnt talk any of the vendors down on ANYTHING so in result i didnt buy anything that cost very much i picked up some chip micormic 10 rounders and some .22 aquila ammo but that was it |
| I've found that gun shows are really be hit or miss. I usually only go to the bigger shows, and typically hit them around noon when there are more folks walking around with something to sell/trade. The dealers pretty much suck as most simply aren't willing to deal fairly. Pricing can be all over the place as well as I have found identical items in the same condition on neighboring tables with differences of several hundred bucks before. I've had some luck at auctions but those can be frustrating if you have a lot of people there with more money than sense. For all the trouble though, I'll continue to go if only to look and to score an occasional deal. At least we still have the option to do so which may or may not be the case in the future. |
