So just got off the phone with EKU campus police, they have declared that if I have a gun in my car it voids some bs law in the handbook or some bullshit. Funny thing is when I brought up KRS 237.106 they all got silent and started discussing it among themselves and then still ruled it would be illegal to keep a gun locked up in my car... and then went on to tell me how they can't have another Columbine or Virgina Tech incident... I believe I'm right, and I'm willing to talk to my congress person about it, but before I do this I want your opinions on it Here is KRS 237.106 237.106 Right of employees and other persons to possess firearms in vehicle -- Employer liable for denying right -- Exceptions. (1) No person, including but not limited to an employer, who is the owner, lessee, or occupant of real property shall prohibit any person who is legally entitled to possess a firearm from possessing a firearm, part of a firearm, ammunition, or ammunition component in a vehicle on the property. So what are you guys ruling on this before I bring in a higher power? |

Eastern Kentucky University Handbook for Students Weapons Policy (Board of Regents Approved 6/28/07)  Persons are prohibited from possessing pellet gun, BB guns and firearms, explosives, or other deadly weapons or look‐alike or replica weapons on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University, except as follows:  a. Sworn police officers employed by the University’s Division of Public Safety;  b. Sworn police officers employed by other public agencies and present on the campus for the purposes of education, training, or assistance at University events; when such possession may be necessary for their official duties or for participation in training. Such officers must be authorized by the employing agency to carry weapons as a normal and required part of their duties;  c. Members of the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) when necessary for the purposes of military officer education and marksmanship training.  A state issued permit to carry a concealed deadly weapon is not valid on the Eastern Kentucky University campus. here ya go  http://www.studentaffairs.eku.edu/menulinks/student_handbook_0607_v3.pdf Page 19 |
Does that not violate that KRS though? I understand carrying a weapon onto campus, but keeping one in YOUR vehicle is illegal? |
|
In addition to the above restrictions, units of state and local governments and postsecondary education facilities (colleges, universities, technical schools and community colleges) have the authority to limit the carrying of concealed weapons on property owned or controlled by them (KRS 237.115). You should check with units of state and local government as well as postsecondary education facilities prior to carrying a concealed weapon on their property. I have a gun in my car Also, KRS 527.070 prohibits unlawful possession (whether carried openly or concealed) of a weapon on school property, except for certain specified exceptions. KRS 244.125 prohibits loaded firearms (concealed or otherwise) in places where alcohol is sold by the drink, except for certain specified exceptions. Its at their discretion! Touchy subject. |
No its up to them. |
What a joke.... I never said I had a gun in my car, but did say I competed and was wondering if it was illegal. I did just get off the phone with one of the legislators. They have a bill in the works to clear this shit up from what they told me. So call your legislator and tell them to amend HB114! |
Not worth the risk, I have a LAE member going to hold my firearms for me, but this is the biggest joke I have ever heard of. I highly recommend all of you to call your legislator and tell them to amend HB114 to clear this shit up. When will they learn its not the guns but the people behind them, and that they do not play by the rules.... That really got to me when they brought up Columbine and Virginia Tech into the equation. Oh I doubt the broke any of the millions of gun laws already out there to protect us from shit like this. . What a joke. Really....Lets just make sure next time it happens none of us law abiding citizens will have firearms in our vehicle to protect ourselves.... |
| universities are not above the law, despite what they might think. My guess is that a gun in the car is not criminal, but they could still terminate your enrollment or order you to leave or face tresspassing charges.....and all you could do is appeal or sue. And suing could go either way. Almost everyone I ran with while in college kept their pistols in their cars or rifles in their trunks. Won't matter unless the wrong people find out or you run into someone with small man syndrome. |
I kept them in a trunk in my dorm closet
|
Your my hero! I know I could get away with doing that, Because when they do room inspections they only check the fridge, but I still wouldn't risk my future on it. |
|
AS much vandalizm and vehicle burglaries that happen at EKU, you'd be a fool to keep a weapon in your vehicle. You may be one of the law abidding citizens that make the call to check to see if you would be legal to keep it in your car, but the asshole that busts your window out definately isn't. Also, you may want to finish reading KRS 237.106. You have to read the whole statute. KRS237.106(5)(c) The provisions of this section shall not apply to any real property: Where a section of the Kentucky Revised Statutes speciffically prohibits possession or carrying of firearms on the property. Trunk had a lock for non-invited room inspections. Kept a Mac11 (semi) and a P38 in it. but that was over 20 years ago before all school shootings started happening. |
+1, just because universities have the right to ban guns does not mean that they have the right to make having them criminal. They may be able to kick you out of college but they cannot have you arrested (different story, of course, for K-12 schools). |
this you can be kicked out for breaking rules, but not arrested, one may submit to POLICIES but policies never supercede KRS....FTR I carry on the "no carry" places... I violate rules not laws, and am willing to be expelled, asked to leave, or fired for it----but know your stance whatever it is... |
. What a joke. Really....
