I rented a place once when I was in Boston and we had a great time catching them. We actually froze them for evidence and when we ended up in court they didn't appreciate our 6 month frozen catalog of mice in sandwich bags Im sure the mice weren't happy about it either Quoted:
Lol...funny you brought this up. I just pulled one from a trap in the garage. I should probably not leave the doors open all the time ![]() They get in one of my garage doors bottom corner. Ive made some elaborate traps, in these areas. Never food, just trickery. |

Damn that's actually really nice trapping! Getting that little fucker on a snare is impressive.
I had a mouse when I lived in an apt in VT. It took me 2 weeks to figure out he was getting in from under a kitchen cabinet, all the while the smart fucker evaded every type of trap I put out. Finally got him one night, sitting on the counter above the hole, just holding out a dictionary waiting for him to pop out. After 2-3 hours he did just that, I dropped the book and he was smashed. Glorious victory. |

Ive made some elaborate traps, in these areas. Never food, just trickery. They get in my shed at will. I set up a 5 gallon HD bucket filled with 3-5 inches of anti-freeze. Drill two holes at the top of the bucket opposite each other and tie a piece of string real tight across the bucket then stick a glob of peanut butter to the middle of the string. Then set a board up on the bucket leading to the string. It's like an ever-trap. Just keeps getting them year round, all you gotta do is pluck em out. They climb the board and go for the pb but can't stay on the string. Disclaimer: it's inside the shed, no risk to other animals. |

Snares are illegal in CT. Nice catch though, I hate mice! I'm a fan of making a ramp leading to a 5 gallon bucket that is partially filled with water. Sprinkle a small amount birdseed on the ramp and gently float a bit of it on the water. Mice go up the ramp, make the jump down to the seed, and drown. |

Use poison in bait stations. Problem solved. Use large stations and kill rats also. Poison is the worst thing to use, in a home. Not only is it dangerous to pets and small children, but the rodents die in inaccessible areas and rot in your walls. Quoted:
Www.ratzapper.com Not a bad idea, but the form factor will not allow placement in 90% of my trapping spots. |
| We had a real bad mouse problem the last two years. They literally chewed thru a wall, thru to different locations in my kitchen cabinets toe kicks, thru cabinet walls to get under my dishwasher and finally thru my dish washer supply line. Took about 18 months to find their entry point into the house. I killed a lot of mice. |

I live in a house built in the 1800's. Trying to keep mice and snakes out of the basement or the barn/garage is a waste of time. I've been using the typical snap mouse traps for 8 years and they work well (most dead - some caught by leg or tail). A typical year is 20 - 40 trapped. I used to beat the live ones to death with a hammer or chop them in half with a hatchet, but I got lazy, tired of the effort, and now shoot the live ones with .45 acp shotshells. One bang and done.
CCI shotshells had a fairly high failure to fire rate, so now I make my own .45 acp shotshells with 160 grains of #9 shot. So far 100% effective. Actually had one mouse on an upper floor in 2014 or 2015. The stupid thing froze upon seeing me. I grabbed a shoe and *WACK!* .... killed it with one hit of a shoe while it sat there on the floor staring up at me. I have no sympathy for those things. |

The key is finding where they get into your house and blocking that off. Use copper mesh and expanding foam for that. Or larger material. Then place some bait station outside or in your shed. Of course if you have pets / kids then you may not like the poison idea..... |

Damn! You got that little fucker good. |
| You guys need to adopt a year old barn cat from a local farm or something. Mine recently didn't come home 6 months ago. Outdoor cat, but it always got bluejays, mice, got a fucking rat I took home on my work van from work, got a weasel, and more bluejays and got a dove, and a yellow finch. Frogs, and ate the frog legs and left it all on the back step. At least 3 times a week she got me stuff. It was the best cat ever. Liked to eat chicken mashed potatoes, macncheese, turkey, cheezits, and also liked to cuddle with the girlfriend at night before we let her outside. |

Same here with the Victor traps. In many places in basement and garage/barn I put two traps (one actually has 3) and a bait in between them (traps are 1 - 2 inches apart). Sometimes a mouse is caught in one or two traps. I typically check them all every day. Last week I actually found one mouse in one trap and another in its twin trap a few inches apart. "Smart" isn't a word I would use to describe them. |
