| Can you shoot from the kneeling or prone instead of the bench at the 100 yard line? I really miss the 200 yard line there. |

Thanks. I dont think ive been there in 2 years
I lost my gravel bank here in RI a couple years ago and trying to find a local rifle range is impossible. My sister lives in moodus so I can swing up there and get dinner and play with my nephew on the way home from BT. Ive got a friend in western ct but he's 3 hours one way and thats a long way to shoot 100 yards. |
| Stupid litigation ruined the fun. I still go there. This weekend is a special where you shoot all day for the one hour price just like weekdays when I usually go. Great for my .22"s. But I do not like to shoot my AR although I do because you are so limited in shooting position and that is problematic for a guy with a busted neck. |

It is a shame Blue Trail has become what it is. I used to shoot there often in the late 80s and early 90s. Never was filled to capacity but there was always a decent amount of people shooting there. The gun shop was well stocked and had good prices. The snack bar was nice to have there.
Now they added those plywood baffles to prevent shooting over the mountain. This was later proved not to have happened. The asshole who sued shot his own house. The place has fallen into disrepair. The 200 yard range is still closed. The bathrooms are disgusting. The snack bar is all but gone. The gun store is a shadow of it's former self. The place is dirty and beat. If they sold family memberships at a price comparable to say the Hartford Gun Club the money generated could be used to fix things up a little. Remove the plywood baffles, clean the bathrooms, open the snack bar and rent guns. If they make it female friendly the place will certainly do better. The snack bar on site would make people hang around longer. It is such a shame the place has become so run down. There is so much potential there. |

He wants to build homes behind the back stop. So he needs the range gone. Yep. Pasquale "Pat" DiNatale has tried several times to get the range shut down so he could develop his land and add some homes to it. Its a classic case of NIBY after the fact. He moved in knowing the range was there and probably assumed (being CT) he could get the range shutdown for his own personal gain. He had the help of WTNH, the Courant and others who ran multiple hit pieces on Blue Trail. WTNH was especially egrigous with their reporting by having the idiotic reporter stand near DiNatale's home, hold up a handgun of shell casings/spent brass and then claim they were "bullets" from from Blue Trail range, which happens to be on the other side of; a hill, a state park, and a pond/small lake. At one point they showed what was purported to be a bullet strike on his home but it was just under the roof line of the home, no way unless it was the "magic bullet" could it have come from Blue Trail. Neighbors in that area have repeatedly reported to news reporters that people shoot in the state forest at night when Blue Trail is closed. When the bullet strike complaint was found by state investigators (twice) to be inconclusive, DiNatale and others switched to claiming Blue Trail was causing lead contamination of the pond/lake and the adjoining stream. From what I remember the water was tested by the local water municipality on several occasions and found to contain no elevated levels of lead despite. They were trying to litigate BTR out of existence.
Much over the whole thing. Because of all the litigation and the cost to add "safety improvements" BTR is much more expensive then they were years ago. When they shut down to do their "safety improvements" and then subsequently raised their rates when they reopened is when High Rock started getting mobbed on the weekends. It sucks as BTR had the public 200 yard range which was nice.

Has DiNatale ever appealed the decision? No clue. Last it was reported he was going to but don't know if anything ever came of it. The website BTR put up (www.savebluetrailrange.org) to help fund and fight the lawsuit(s) is a dead site and the domain looks like its available. It might be closer, im in southern Ri. Is that a public range? Back in 05' when I got out of the Marines and wasnt even looking for work and living with my sister. I spent a lot if time laying on that 200 yard line. |
