PolyTech Pre Ban AK. This guy has a couple of MAK90s. They have been for sale for a while he might be willing to deal. |

AK's are a no-go since the old list went back into effect, no?

Coolio, it's certainly preban then.
Make sure it's not a J-15F or something like that. There's a new manufacture one that is very easy to mistake and get burned.

The upper that came on it is similarly ancient. I've been out of CT for ages and not as up on it as I once was, before I either list it or gift it to a family member who's still there are there any glaring issues I should be aware of? View Quote |

That was my only question as well, but I spend a few hours pouring over images of sold prebans (explicitly sold as prebans) and I ran into a few with six digit serials like this so I'm not too worried. As far my crash course knowledge goes the only non-preban cast ones a few J-15-2s, and from the few pictures of those that exist (thanks to photobucket) this does not share the features of those, nor of course is there any marking after the J-15, nor any markings that indicate a 2 would have been removed.
I agree. Definitely not a modded J-15-2. Have you given Essential arms a call? Last I heard, they still answer these types of questions.
The owner of EA should give you the answer.
I will add, I don't think that is the original finish for that receiver. The cast J15's are a very light gray. All that means, if it is a preban, is that it's been refinished. |
i would be very skeptical on it...........
i have a signed hand written letter from essential arms stating that j15 lowers with a serial number under 50,000 were produced before september 1994 |
Just got off the phone with the owner. This whole thing is a big mystery, by being a j15 it's made before the ban, but he has no idea on the serial, he says they only made them into the 49xxx range. This is not the only one I've seen with a serial way above that, so I have no idea what to do on this

I've seen lowers from other brands with two-digit date codes added near the serial number to indicate the year of manufacture. Maybe someone added the "88" to indicate the year and it landed too close to the serial number?
