I don't even need one, but I'd buy that just to melt down the muzzle break. If you don't stop the cycle it could go on for generations.

The assembler of that gun bought every gimmick there is. Buy it for the lower and get rid of all the tacticool junk to recover some dough.

yes but there is not a high demand.....there are tons of preban 10/22's. Whatever the market rate for an older 10/22 is going for is pretty much the price it would sell for here- there is no premium$

The state has not officially stopped allowing transfers. Some were speculating that would happen after the court case. Remarkable Arms in Wallingford is still transferring and I believe Delta is. I would call to confirm.

I won that one ... Reflex is still good ... called trijicon after I saw how long these have been in production ... made in 1999. Tritium still going. I almost want to keep it. They said roughly 200 to rework it.

Do any of you have a list of preban serials for essential arms? I've been out of CT for several years and have a lower im pretty sure is preban (serial 633xxx).

According to the file I have all Essential Arms lowers are pre ban. They went out of business prior to the ban.

They are still around. There is a number to call, they will get you a letter. J-15s are preban. There is an additional letter or number in the model name on post bans. All pre-bans are cast lowers as well, so the serial should be raised if I’m remembering correctly. I had an EA pre-ban but sold it a few years ago.

Coolio, it's certainly preban then.

Make sure it's not a J-15F or something like that. There's a new manufacture one that is very easy to mistake and get burned.

It's not. Standard j15, raised markings, all that.

Here's the lower. My understanding is that anything J-15 marked with the raised lettering is preban, and the few detailed pictures I could find of the preban lowers seem to match the little details (such as the triangular selector stops). The upper that came on it is similarly ancient. I've been out of CT for ages and not as up on it as I once was, before I either list it or gift it to a family member who's still there are there any glaring issues I should be aware of?

Looks legit in every way, but I’ve never seen a serial number that high for a J-15. Not even close to that high.

That was my only question as well, but I spend a few hours pouring over images of sold prebans (explicitly sold as prebans) and I ran into a few with six digit serials like this so I'm not too worried. As far my crash course knowledge goes the only non-preban cast ones a few J-15-2s, and from the few pictures of those that exist (thanks to photobucket) this does not share the features of those, nor of course is there any marking after the J-15, nor any markings that indicate a 2 would have been removed.

I agree. Definitely not a modded J-15-2. Have you given Essential arms a call? Last I heard, they still answer these types of questions.

The owner of EA should give you the answer.
I will add, I don't think that is the original finish for that receiver.  The cast J15's are a very light gray.  All that means, if it is a preban, is that it's been refinished.
Link Posted: 1/29/2018 12:24:35 AM EDT

i would be very skeptical on it...........

i have a signed hand written letter from essential arms stating that j15 lowers with a serial number under 50,000 were produced before september 1994

Just got off the phone with the owner. This whole thing is a big mystery, by being a j15 it's made before the ban, but he has no idea on the serial, he says they only made them into the 49xxx range. This is not the only one I've seen with a serial way above that, so I have no idea what to do on this

Nah I already have it. By everything it should be a preban, and the finish on the upper and lower both match as if redone at some point. I'm wondering if any of the lowers were built into complete rifles and stared at that time, but I have no idea.

The frustrating thing is I couldn't get a "no, that's a post ban" either, just no idea. The guy said they sometimes did special meaningful numbers (such as birthdays, but this wouldn't work out to a date), or employees would do something, but I can't get a confirmation either way. I guess I've got more digging to do.

I've seen lowers from other brands with two-digit date codes added near the serial number to indicate the year of manufacture. Maybe someone added the "88" to indicate the year and it landed too close to the serial number?
