Anyone got input? Reputable repairman?
I have an LG shitting the bed right now, don't want to buy another one. ETA: Fuck you system! What gives? Move my shit and Ill kick your ass! |

^Just make sure thats the exact problem.
I did this for my parents LG 50" plasma. I soldered in a few new capacitors that were blown.....NOTHING I ordered them a new board, swapped the hole thing.....NOTHING They threw out the TV and bought a Samsung 50" LED.....never going back to LG or PLASMA.(They've had other issues with LG beyond just TV's) But zeger...its pretty easy to take apart a TV, just watch some youtube vids, there'll even be videos to show what to look for and how to fix the normal issues. Sometimes its beyond that, and you can dive deeper, or cut your losses and move on |

Thanks for all the info, guys.
Is anybody else seeing that SYSTEM MESSAGE under my OP? Or is my comp going full-retard, too?
Im going to try digging around for some info and see if its something I can fix. Otherwise, Pauls TV's (the place cjt posted) is recommended by the LG page that edgephoto posted, so that'll be the place if I can't. Thanks again. |

LG LCD TV-DEAD! LG Dehumidifier -DEAD! LG DVD Player -DEAD! I'm through with their crap products. I hear that a lot, but I've had this TV for 5ish years now. I mean, I'd like it to last longer, but I don't genuinely expect any electronic built after the 90's to last more than 5 years. |

usually a shitty capacitor,
Here is what I do. I give everything at least one DIY try if it is something under $1000. Apply a gradual depreciation to the item as well. This results in 2 possible outcomes. 1. Fixed. Happy! MHC looks awesome to wifey. 2. More broken. No big deal. Was already broken. Just now more broken. This gives you a good chance to go all Donald Duck Rage on it when you are fed up with it. I don't take a dopey-ass ham-fisted approach either. Do you your research. Figure out not just the broken part, but the root cause (usually heat buildup is the #1 killa). But I'm not going to buy $400 in test equipment to try to fix a $200 pornbox either. If it is over $1000, fuck it call the pros. Try to get a professional and not some stupid service tech that just does component level repairs. Everything is pretty much on two or three circuit boards, so any idiot can replace one of those. Get someone that can reflow solder on a PCB and knows how to use a meter. Too many dumbasses out there treat this shit like an oil change at jiffy lube. I am the king of my may tag washer and dryer. Fucking thing are pure steampunk clockwork. They suck down power but I don't give a fuck. All the new stuff sucks. Oh and do your homework on a new TV purchase. Lots of brands are made by LG. If I wasn't so insistent that you shoot your TV because everything on TV is designed to make men caponized little women, and women into raging cocksluts, I would suggest that you at the very least get a Samsung or Sony. The only other option I would recommend is to go VERY cheap and get the house brand and just use it until it dies it's eventually death. Meanwhile save the money between the house brand and the Sony and you'll have more than enough when replacement time comes again. Things that I can NEVER seem to fix: lampshade iMac, powerbooks, powermacs, laptop computers in general. General Motors products powered by non-pushrod engines. Things I can fix: Washers, dryers, fridges, Fucking Wheel Horse Briggs and Stratton Fucking Iron awesome motors for tractors. Nissans. |

Shitty caps are a huge problem in the entire electronics industry.
Ask Dell. I have replaced more Dell motherboards on GX Workstation models than I could shake a stick at. They pop and leak. Nasty shit. And dont think for one second that other manufactures are exempt from this. Samsung has their issues with power supply caps popping on their TVs also. |

TV... Samsung or go home. Right now they are on top. This will change. TV tech has bottomed out. Prices will plummet, if you can't find a loaded 50" for about $750 in the next 6 months you ain't looking hard. I saw a 72" sharp LED WiFi for 1200. I paid more than that for my 55" 3D. Shit I have never used the 3D. If I didn't get a PS4,last night I would have looked at TVs I need a 72 for my bedroom. |

Actually, the TV repair man that fixed my TV said they get a lot of Samsungs in for repair. Well let me say this .... Samsung has almost 30% market share of smart TV sales. In 2011 they sold 2million TVs in something like 2 months. More TVs sold equals higher number of failures. It would be nice to see stats on failures per units sold from the big three vendors.. LG Sharp Samsung. I am willing to say that a lot of them are caused by shitty capacitors from China |
