Look at the state web site.  I you/your son will need to take a hunter safety course.

The state website tells you very little about junior hunters.  The junior hunter will need to take a hunter safety course to obtain a hunting license, and whoever they are hunting with must be over 18, also licensed, and directly supervising the junior.  The convoluted information available online tells you on what days of the year the junior hunter can hunt (under supervision).

Take the course with him. It's really good to be with them just incase their a bit nervous.

Youths get to deer and turkey hunt the 2 Saturdays before the season opens which is really cool. You guys get the woods to yourselves

Those are days/events that are reserved for junior hunters. With appropriate supervision, junior hunters may participate in the totality of seasons for which they possess appropriate tags/permits/licenses.

Only the youngster can hunt on those days. No taking the rife from them because a 220 inch buck strolls under your stand

My sister in law plugged a nice little spike 2 weeks before the season started a few years back. It's good for the youngins to get out before the woods are full of hunters
