Something that was brought up in another post, I feel should get its own thread.  And that is the fact that we really need to support local stores as much as possible since these laws took effect.  I think we should keep a thread open or just post negative and positive experiences we'd had at stores, this way we can keep the good ones in business, and the others ones, well, maybe they'll address why someone left their store upset.  Id hate to see this law kill small businesses, so we should keep everyone on CT HTF in the know as to who the best people to buy from are.

Ive already talked up Greysons a lot.  They held a Glock 19 for me, gave me 15rd mags instead of 10 that it came with, installed night sets I bought online for free, held ammo for me, produced a box of defense ammo out of thin air when they were supposed to be sold out.

Silver City in West Haven is a hole in the wall on Campbell ave.  Good little shop, almost always have ammo, prices are OK.  I bought a used G27 from there, had my AR lower shipped to them from a non-FFL, which no other FFLs around would accept.

I'm going to buy what suits my needs the best.  I hope the locals can stock high quality stuff.
I'll play a little more locally, but I will not pay a sucker or pity tax.
I will continue to go to JoJos for new guns bulk ammo and gunsmithing, nGX for used guns /C&R, center sports for any in a pinch buys, and my Kitchen table FFL for transfers.

I should have mentioned something along those lines.  This would be something I would call out on here. "blank shop is charging x amount more for blank"  and then others could decide whether or not to buy online or in store.

By no means am I advocating paying more to buy local.  My needs from an LGS are pretty basic so I dont need to do too much online shopping anyway

Delta Arsenal for FFL transfers, AR stuff and whatever they can supply. Center Sport was pretty cool so I will go back there. I plan to try out the new store in Enfield.

NGX, BMG and Hoffmans will get get a dime of my money.

Before the latest scare, Hoffman's has always been my go to store for reloading supplies. I've bought a few firearms there over the last 20+ years too. I've never had a problem with them. The Freedom Shoppe is where I go for a transfer.

Well after this latest scare you find out who the real good businesses are. Hoffman's is not a good place to do business in my opinion. And I won't give them a dime. They have an attitude when you go in there and you get ignored if the so called sales people do not feel like waiting on you. They walk by and look right at you and turn away. F**k them. BMG's fat guy is an a**hole and NGX has the same attitude as Hoffman.

I have had good service many other places so I will give my money to them. Malloy and his bandits already get the other 1/2 of my money.

My in town LGS for transfers. Not the cheapest, but a 60 'minute round trip to save $10 not worth it.
Sportsmans Outpost has been great for my transfers from nonFFL.

Like everybody else, I think, ammo would be the big issue. It needs to become available and affordable again.

I say again, Delta, NGX, and my favorite pawn shop or feed and grain store in whatever town below the Mason-Dixon line I'm working in.
Finding decent deals on ammo, and mags, plus sales taxes are low and non existent. Plus my non CT shipping address is proving to be a boon for my inter webs shopping.

Literally every single time I've ever gone into Hoffman's they went out of their way to piss me off.  A few examples...

A) I went there to buy some light target loads for my 90 year old shotgun.  They were out of the target loads but after explaining my needs to the salesman he directed me to some other rounds that were on sale, which looked to be pretty high powered hunting rounds.  I aksed him whether these things required a certain type of barrel or choke and he replied "he really didn't know much about shotguns".  THEN WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU RECOMMENDING HIGH POWERED ROUNDS THAT MIGHT MAKE THE GUN BLOW UP IN MY FACE??

B) I went there againand picked up shotgun shells and brought them to the counter, and I stood there by myself waiting for about five minutes while four salesmen were standing around twenty feet away completely ignoring me and talking about their hunting stories while a fifth saleman was helping another customer.  When the customer came up to the register, the salesman PUSHED MY SHOTGUN SHELLS OFF TO THE SIDE AND PRETENDED I DIDN'T EVEN EXIST so he could ring up his own customer.  I simply walked out and didn't come back for a year.

C) THEN, I went there to buy a spotting scope.  There was one on sale there and I asked the salesman about it, and the guy essentuially said "Duh, let me check".  He walks away for a few minutes before coming back and telling me some generic information.  I decide to buy is and asked if there were any left.  He essentially said "Duh, let me check", walked away, and came back in a few minutes to say they were out of stock.  Of course I ask if they could sell the scope on display and since it's a floor model whether I could get a deal on it.  He said "Duh, let me check", went away, and came back and said  they'd have to charge me retail.  ON A DISPLAY MODEL.  So, I ask can I at least have the box the scope came in and, yep, you guessed it, he said "Duh, let me check" and walked away.  At that point I just said screw this and walked out and bought the same scope somewhere else.  If memory serves it was even cheaper.

D) When they opened up their indoor range I brought my .45 to do some shooting and the salesman specifically told me that I couldn't bring my own ammo- I had to buy their ammo there at the shop.  Seriously?

E) Then there was the ONE time i did an FFL transfer there.  The idiots actually lost my order for a day.

I will happily drive ten extra miles in any other direction to avoid ever going back to Hoffman's.  They have without question the worst customer service I've ever encountered in any store anywhere.  Even worse than McDonalds with their high school kids.   I will have the occasional bad experience in some places.  Hoffmans is the only place where I get bad service EVERY time I go there.  How the hell are they still in business?

Yes, that is true for everybody. It has to do with their insurance policy.

The two stores that have gone well out of their way to make me happy are JoJo's and Greyson's.

I like NGX and Hiller Sports a lot too - friendly guys.  The four gun shops in the New Milford area I recently shopped were really positive experiences too.

Frank at K5 screwed me.  Good riddance.

Freedom Shoppe
SHOOTERS Pistol Range (they have a nice stash of Colt 1911's there)
The Jolly  Roger
I can't remember the name of this one up the road from Big Y - small shop

I'm sure there are a few more in the area that I've overlooked

Yea that is it. I expect a crowded store to drop everything and kiss my ass.

Seriously I expect not to be spoken to with a real attitude, nasty comments or just plain being ignored. I was there to buy. Fuck them I left and bought elsewhere. No excuse for that kind of treatment. I don't care how busy you are or what kind of day you had. Do your job.

Thanks I have not been over that way in a few months I know the three,  the one up from big y I have no idea about.  Is the freedom shop up rt. 7?  They deal with class 3 stuff right

Actually, I dunno if Freedom Shoppe is FFL+SOT.  It's a really tiny shop.  They are the southernmost of the New Milford fun shops, IIRC (Rt. 7).

Wonder how much longer they're going to stick around, I think I overheard Vic and Henson saying they'd be relocating south.

With so much stuff to be mad about in CT, I suppose I would be better off not getting mad about how mad guys get at gun shop service, but here goes...

How the fuck do you guys deal with the customer service at the post office, DMV, or at a crowded bar?  What the hell do you guys to get service/attention when you are not in a position of leverage/strength (i.e. getting someone to do something for you when they don't really have to)?

Working at a gun shop sucks.  Dealing with customers all day long sucks.  Lighten up.  Be patient, try to be low maintenance, ask for something when you need it, and don't misconstrue every instance where you don't get your ass kissed as some sort of personal affront.

IME, I've had adequate to great service at Hiller, NGX, JoJo's, and Greysons.  And the guys at the Freedom Shoppe are GTG as well.

The 4th (and most Northern up rt 7 across from Scotts landscaping) is Housatonic valley firearms. He is the class 3 dealer, not the Freedom Shoppe. You can't swing a cat in 3 of those stores in New Milford.

So what happens when someone shows up with his own ammo wanting to use the range  and they don't have any ammo of that caliber in stock?  Do they turn him away as per these insurance requirements or do they just take his money anyway and let him use his own ammo?

You know the answer to that and so do I.

You do buy the stamps from them, right?

You can buy the envelopes (gun) anywhere, but when you want to use the services to mail (shoot) you buy the stamps (bullets) from the USPS (private range).
