I was supposed to go for a psych test for a job I'm trying to get Saturday morning.. just got a call that said it was canceled and they're rescheduling for the next Saturday.
I'm still fairly stocked up from the Sandy scare (we hardly even got rain) but I'll be getting some more dry food later tonight or tomorrow. I'm not worried about it - but just like carrying a firearm, it's better to have and not need than to need and not have. |
This storm is no joke, expect a 4-6 foot storm surge on the Sound, so almost assured coastal flooding, intense periods of white out conditions up to 2-3 inches of snow per hour for sustainted periods, and wind gusts along the coast up to 70 MPH. I'm growing tired of these "historical events". I guess it's good job security though.

Making turkey soup and gonna try and do a pork shoulder in the crockpot! Ha....the wife is putting together a big batch of turkey soup as I type. We'll have it in case the power goes away for a while. It's easy to reheat on our propane stoves. Do you make your own broth from the turkey carcasses?? Rome |

Do you make your own broth from the turkey carcasses?? Rome To me, that's the only way. I have heard of cutting corners, but to me it's just not the same once you use the carcass. I bought a little roasting chicken from the store last week and whipped up a batch (roasted chicken 2 hours/ boiled with onion, carrot, celery, spices/ removed bones and veggies from stock/ added new veggies and spices). When you think about what's actually going into a homemade chicken/turkey soup, it's quite healthy for you and a decent variety of nutrients. We're trying to watch our salt levels so we've pretty much eliminated all processed foods (besides alcohol, there's no salt in that). Plus, if cavgunner doesn't eat it all this storm, it freezes AMAZINGLY well for later use. I |

And I live for the Costco $5 chicken carcass too ! Kale is my secret ingredient. Propane stove too ! |

VQ auto bolt release, between them and Kidd it makes for good shopping. I'm looking at a new locking block, a GM 920 threaded barrel and an optic. From what I'm reading 16.5" is adequate. I'm thinking scout rifle. I got the Hogue stock for $69 from Hawktecharms! I wanted OD but $20 off no brainer! And a can of course! I guess I'm only allowed 7 beers am hour then. |

Cav, low magnification variable optic like the weaver 2-7.
It's really hard to find a long eye relief scope for rimfire. You will end up jury-rigging a pistol scope or have weird BDC issues with a centerfire scout scope. That and you don't want to be tapping some of the 10/22 barrels. Too much weight on the V-block and some of the lightweight barrels are tensioned liners. 16.5" Kidd, bead blasted, threaded w/ cap. Done. http://www.coolguyguns.com/Match-Bull-Barrel_p_27.html look at that chamfer on the chamber If you want to use stock parts, this guy is highly recommended as well, but I don't have any direct experience with him. http://www.ct-precision.com/ruger10-22.html |

Nothing in stone plenty of research yet to be done. I may have prematurely purchased the auto bolt release. VQ trigger group assemblies come with it, I'm thinking of dropping one of those in and calling it a day for about $160. |
