Was having a discussion with some friends at the range recently, regarding the possibility of doing a FTF swap of some firearms, if this "Universal background check" gets any traction, as it will be a form of registration, probably. Just thinking that a 10/22 is a 10/22, a lower is a lower, etc. just swap guns with a friend, and break the paper chain. I don't see a downside. Anybody got a comment |

Won't change much
If registration is law, you would be a law breaker If they come collecting and you told them you sold it, it wouldn't matter if you did sell it or not; you could say whatever you wanted and you would still be breaking the same laws and facing the same consequences. |

The discussion we were having was about doing it now, before any registration / tracking is in place. |

I only think its useful if either the ATF is really not shredding 4473's after 24 hours and/or the CT state police are hanging on to the authorization to sell forms and either one is entering them into some type of database.
If either one is - we are kind of already screwed as then a pseudo registration already exists. If we have to register things, then you have to register what you have regardless if its the one you left the store with or if you swapped it with your buddy. My point is they either have illegal registries already and we've already fucked, or they force you to register in which case you do or you don't. |

When u sell a firearm... Long gun privately , do u have to retain the paperwork as evidence of such transaction? Curious to know how this works. |

Quoted: What is this 'paperwork' you speak of? Do you mean Dollar bills?Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Won't change much If registration is law, you would be a law breaker If they come collecting and you told them you sold it, it wouldn't matter if you did sell it or not; you could say whatever you wanted and you would still be breaking the same laws and facing the same consequences. | At this point it's insane to try to find the few guns I'd like to have prior to any ban... and I think the only way I can sanely buy mags is to trade hi-caps straight across for other hi-caps. Perhaps we should start a trade thread. I've got hi-caps for Ruger 10/22's, but need at least one P226 9mm. Time to start one, I guess. |
