With the potential of Hurricane Sandy taking a turn back to the east coast, is anyone prepping for the storm?

I am as ready as I can be already.
Might have to work from home on Tuesday though dont want to be on the Merritt Parkway while this thing is happening.

I'm preparing to fly away and leave my family completely unprepared. I'll be in NC, WTF do I care?

My wife and I shall get water battreries etc together...I still have a stash of stuff from last year....

They just announced CT is getting the worse case scenario..

Track is shifting further west as we go along. Now appears NJ may get landfall with us (CT) getting hammered with wind/rain.

There were models earlier in the week that showed the storm turning into the Delmarva area of southern Jersey and producing a huge snow storm in the NY, PA hills above 1,000 feet. Looks like if the west word track continues that model might prove accurate.

After what happened with Irene last year, I'm not taking any chances. I was living around Albany, NY at the time and we still had a lot of places under water. Where I live now in Vermont didn't get it so bad, but you go out about a half-mile to a mile into town and some of those places were under water.

I'm going to be smart this year and fill up some of the 3 liter soda bottles I have with water and raid the Wal-Mart and Price Chopper before the other people get a chance to. I couldn't find any batteries, flash lights, or bottled water last year.

Yep, as the plan stands Ill be working outside. Well see what they say when Monday rolls around.

Good chance to try out this surplus Gortex I picked up in the EE. Plus, all the leaves will be down so I wont have to rake 28 times.

Now is a good time to get ready, for any of you who aren't already. . . .

If you need a generator buy it now!! I picked up the small 900w one at Harbor Freight last year for $89 and i was able to watch TV , have some lights on, charge cell phones and batteries. I only lost power for a day and a half but, it sucks having no electricity.
10/25/2012 3:04:42 PM EDT
[#9]
Other than filling up a couple 5 gallon containes we're all set. This area lost power for 7 days with Irene, but we had all the comforts of home while our generator was running.

I don't think it will be as bad as Irene because most if not all the leaves are off the trees. Don't hold me to that though

Fuck prepping...I'm gonna run out and masturbate right in that bitches eye! Furiously, even...

Hey Got_guns, we got room if you are cold if you know what I mean.

I kid.  Best of luck.   I know it can be a difficult thing.  Couldn't resist the joke opportunity tho.

I just asked my wife to come up with eight dinner plans and a shopping list for six people and eight nights. We'll most probably become a hotel again for my oldest daughter and my son-in-law along with my mother-in-law and a young fella that I'm helping out.  At least this time we can plan although we've got enough food to survive about 2 months if need be.  I've got plenty of fuel for the generator and will have an opportunity to try out the new transfer switchs I had installed after the last storm.

Maybe, just maybe this storm will help bring down all the big, floating branches from the last storm.  I've still got well over a dozen stuck way up in the trees that need to come down but I'll be damned if I'm going to try to get them down.  We also still have about 30% of our leaves still on the trees.  Mother nature put them there and she can get 'em out.

I think I may also camp near the railroad underpasses and see how many people try and drive through the 3 feet of water with their hondas...

Again I ask.  Who decided that french toast is THE survival food/

Stocks of single malt scotch and bourbon are at peak levels.  Survival rations consist of: bagels, dried Italian sausage, olive oil Triscuits, string cheese, coconut shrimp and horseradish white cheddar.  We're good.  Stay safe everyone.

Just got a report from a buddy that the two gas stations off I-84 (on rt 32) in Tolland ran out of gas earlier today.

On a similar note, I saw gas for $3.54 in Vernon at a Cumby's . . .  with a line of cars down the street.

My thoughts on people . . . .   . . . . that is all . . .

Im gonna laugh when this goes down just like a thunderstorm. . . if at all . . .

Nothing washes down a bread sandwich like milk. Except of course watching someone puke after trying to polish off the 4 gallons of milk before the fridge gets warm. hahaha

She probably had power in last year's storm.

The only places that had power was the eastern shoreline and apparently, Columbia.

Stop and Shop in Amity had the generic gallon sized water jugs isle cleared out. Still some of the expensive bottled water left along with 5 gallon jugs. Lots of people buying frozen food. Their gas station was packed about 15 minutes ago, the cheaper Hess station down on Whalley was empty topped off my car there, regular was $3.79.

I laughed out loud when the guy in front of me at Stop and Shop asked the guy in front of him where he could buy a generator.

People starting to get a little crazy.
I went to fill my car up today there was a car on the other side of the pump filling up as well, when he finished he opened his trunk and took out 3 5 gallon gas containers and began filling them up,as he began to fill the cans up there was a car behind him that started honking his horn and yelling how it is bullshit and not to hog all the gas .It was like watching 2 women argue.
The station by my house is usually pretty quiet ,today it was 5 deep.
