I have been wanting to just get into my car one Saturday morning and start hitting 1 gunshop after another stopping for lunch midday somewhere. Only one problem I don't know where allot of the are and I also don't know any names to look up.
What I am looking for in shops are: Prebans, goods selections of pistols, rifles, shotguns, mags, ammo. Mostly tactical type of stuff. Sucks to go by myself but I have asked guys I know and none of them ever seem to want to. What are some good shops to put into my gps and figure out a day to go to the 1 by 1? ***********I did look into the NE gun shops thread but it's a bit outdated and I heard allot of new shops opening up that are not in there. |

The "central CT circuit" would be Shoot up 91N to riverview, back down to the Berlin turnpike for NGX, Hoffman's, BMG, in that order. Riverview has had some interesting stuff recently that I don't see in the other locals like CT Compliant FN-SCARs, Aresenal AK's, Turkish MP-5 rifles and pistols, masterpiece arms MAC clones, etc, etc.
From there you can take a quick jaunt over to Cabela's in EH, but they suck, or you could shoot down south to Southington and Meriden for JoJo's and Delta. NGX and Delta are going to have the best variety of pre-ban type stuff. JoJo's is still first and foremost a gunsmith shop with a small retail presence, but they never fail to have a few interesting guns and prebans. I think I've seen a different SR-25 pre ban in there each of the past three or four times I've been there this year. They probably have the best selection of accessories on hand out of any shop though. From what I understand, the shops in SW CT are the ones with all the big variety of pre-bans and rare military rifles, but I've never been to any of them. I know where a Polytech M-14 from 1988 just went up for sale by me. I don't want to break any advertising rules, but if someone is in the market for a preban .308, PM me and I'll fill you in. |

The ones down by me are:
Retail: Hiller sports in Norwalk(good guys, nice shop) Bob's in Darien(small shop, they always have something interesting when I go in) Valley Firearms in Shelton(I have not been to them in years) K-5 in Milford(I did not like them, shitty attitude towards customers) Delta Arsenal( have not been there myself, but I have heard nothing but good things.it is on my list of shops to visit) Gunsmithing: JoJos's in Southington as said before small retail presence but there Gunsmithing is top notch and they are good guys to boot. If they weren't so far from me I would be there every weekend buying something...Which may be a blessing in disguise. Gunsmithing Unlimited in Southport (behind the Ruger building). He does excellent work I can vouch for him. |

If you're coming down from the north to do the Berlin TPKE loop, you would save yourself a lot of traffic aggrevation aggravation to do BMG before Hoffman's. If you do Hoffman's first, you get stuck driving up like a mile before you can turn-around to drive back down to BMG all to turn around again in front of Hoffman's go back up the Turnpike past the exit for NGX as you go back up towards Hartford. . |
| A new shop recently opened up in Seymour. "Chusetown Gunworks" It's a pretty small shop located in the dudes family owned pawn shop. Several pistols and rifles. He does transfers and gives loans on firearms as well. Check it out. Located inside the Seymour Pawn Shop. |

He does excellent work I can vouch for him. anyone been there recently? i was there years ago like when i was in HS and played paint ball then in 06 but wasn't a fan, way high prices, i asked about a pistol and then said i didn't have a permit so he wouldn't show it to me. pretty much told me to fuck off more or less, not "oh well you can't buy one till you get it, we offer classes" or something like that but "if you don't have a permit then i can't sell it to you or even let you hold onto it" or something along those lines and then became very short with his answers to any other questions i had. JoJos and Brian in Seymour (Chusetown Gunworks) are pretty much the only gun shops in the state that i'll give any business to, and not biased just on prices either. i like the guys. i do need to go back to JoJos with my brothers Mosin and one of the suppressor mounts i have just to see the look on Hanks face, then see if he tells me to get out hahaha. if you want subsonic 22 JoJos has a lot of it, Gemtech, CCI, remington and Winchester i believe. i need to go get another brick of it, i do not have a 22 can but a 22kit for my 10in SBR with an AAC M4-2000. it's like i found shooting all over again |

I can add a couple. The Outpost in Uncasville is a decent store. Not a huge selection, but usually some interesting stuff and the selection seems to grow every time I go. Nice people there too. The Grouse Perch in Old Saybrook. Small shop. I think he's mostly bird hunting stuff (shotguns, calls, etc), but he does have some handguns, rifles and ammo. He's a decent chap and will bend your ear for an hour if you let him. North Cove is gone. Oh, if you're looking for a shitty selection of shitty guns at high ridiculously high prices and some verbal abuse, I know one more place. ![]() |

Anyone been to Bethany firearms lately? I used to do a lot of business there when I lived in the area. I went to Bethany Firearms about 3 years go to get a pistol transferred from out of state. They didn't want to be bothered helping me. I went on a Saturday and they were all hanging around eating hot dogs. What is it with the hot dog cooking inside a gun store. Bunch of old guys hanging around. Wanted to order some ammo they didn't have and they were of no help. I have stopped in there a few times in the past and the same. I don't go there anymore. They are a hole in the wall. I have the best luck at Hoffmans. |
