If I install a muzzle brake on a Saiga 12 does it have to be pinned like on an AR.

The barrel is its stock length so no concern about SBS, and I understand if I had the barrel cut short I would have to have it pinned to get out of SBS territory.

Thanks for the help.

No.

The definition of "assault weapon" as it relates to shotguns doesn't mention muzzle devices in any way, shape or form.  You can hang anything on there you desire.

Sec. 53-202a(3)(C):

(C) A semiautomatic shotgun that has at least two of the following:

     (i) A folding or telescoping stock;

     (ii) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;

     (iii) A fixed magazine capacity in excess of five rounds; and

     (iv) An ability to accept a detachable magazine

Thats what I got out of it too.

But, I always like to get other opinions seeing as how screwed up things are here.

Thanks again!

So if the gun only has 5 or less round mags can it have a folding stock?

If the magazine is fixed AND it doesn't have a pistol grip.

So if it is semiauto shotgun , you can only have one feature out of the list. Once you hit the 2nd feature...it's a nogo right?

The Saiga already has a detachable magazine, which per the law, means any other feature on the list would make it an AW.  I was unsure of the muzzle device.

The trick is to install a Dragunov style or thumbhole stock.  Many folks have contacted DPS and they say that These two types are GTG.

The OTHER trick is once you want to use a mag w < 5rd capacity you get into the "is this SG for sporting purposes".  And ONCE that happens 922r comes into play.

So now on top of CT laws you would have to worry about the Fed laws.

FUN!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't "sporting uses" in regards to import, rather than use?

I've never known shotguns to have to justify a sporting use once in country.   Some like the pancor and streetsweeper/protecta/Striker as a DD.  which are all banned by name anyways.

No argument on 922r.

No need to worry about the Feds anymore. The Federal AWB expired. Only CT laws apply.

By FEDs I meant the not a "sporting" SG anymore.

Even thought the FED AWB ended we still have to comply to 922r which has the whole foreign parts count (No more than 10).

Correct.  If you want to run 20rd drum mags then you need to comply on the Federal level. On the Saiga it is easy, you simply swap the trigger for a USA made one and only use drum mags that are made in the USA.

I was planning on making mine a Short Barreled Shotgun anyway so the 922r wouldn't matter anyway.

So the muzzle of a Saiga 12 doesn't matter?  I see most are threaded and just have a thread protector.  That's ok
