| Want to take the wife and kids (boy and girl, both age 9) to Cape Cod for the day this Saturday. Can anybody recommend a good beach? I am coming from the Western Mass/Springfield area so the drive will be about 2 hours. Would prefer not to spend a lot of $$ on parking etc. You help is greatly appreciated. |

Pretty much, take the one road in, pick a beach, enjoy, and take the one road out.
The farther up you go the easier it gets to hit sea-side and bay-side in the same day, if your for some reason not satisfied with your first choice. Its going to be busy, this is Cape season. (Not that Im saying don't go) But if your anything like me, and really want to enjoy the Cape, you should take a long weekend out there a few weeks before the onset of winter. You get to meet the real locals this way, find the real restaurants that are year round, and the beaches are aaallllllll yours. Nothin makes the world feel small (and you smaller) than standing at the tip of race point just after the sun set, with no one else around, watching a twinkling light across the ocean, only to find out your actually looking at Nova Scotia, to look west and see the whole Maine coast in one eyeshot. All the beaches on the Cape are comparable if you ask me (in that light), I saw virtually all of them in a 4 day get-away in the off season, but I can't really tell you which ones get busy etc. Its amazing, two completely different worlds, on the exact same little peninsula. Have fun! |

Plus 10000 to Z,'s take.
I used to go often, but the best times were fall or February weather kinda rough, but seafood is at its best in cold water, and no traffic. Even P-Town goes back into the closet, tho I've been there in midseason too. Its just mad traffic and real expensive in season, but its a ball. |

Don't bother with any beach other than Mayflower Beach in Dennis. Try to be there as the tide is going out, but make sure you get there early (like before 10am). Once the lot is full you have to wait to get in. Nice white warm sand - Great for the wife No seaweed - Nice No rocks - Great for your feet No swift currents - Great for kids Shallow - Great for kids. Warm because it's shallow Tidal pools - crabs, snails to find with the kids Lots of hot women to look at - Great for you Nice little snack bar - Usually cute girls work there and they have icy cold water.
