| I submitted my pistol permit to the resident state trooper the last week in March. A week later my fingerprint cards and two checks are returned to my home address with a form stating I was missing a check (I submitted 3). I promptly stroked another check and returned it via mail. The following week I get a call from the resident state trooper saying the permit request has been returned to him with three checks saying I am missing a payment. A quick review of my checking account show that the state has deposited one of the now four checks I have written. I advise the state trooper of this and he tells me that the last check I wrote wasn't necessary and that he'll send the package back to Middletown. It is now eight weeks and all three checks have been deposited. How much longer should I wait before I pick up the phone and start making inquiries? |

Do you remember the name of the resident trooper that you talked to? He seemed pretty helpful haha, Id try and start with him.
I waited 8 weeks and 4 days. I didn't want to make a big fuss and file an appeal at the time, so I told myself I would at 10 weeks. 4 days later I was picking it up and on my way to Middletown. I hope it comes sooner than later for you. |

Its not a paperwork error on your part, and you paid all the fees. And it wasn't kicked back on denial. It was human error on their part, I'd contqact those oranizations first.
Easy for me to say, I was told 8-12 weeks. They cashed a check so it shouldn't be long. BTW, I got my approval in 6 weeks. [ninja:)] |

I had a friend who got his permit through Middletown. Took him 12 weeks roughly if I recall correctly. this was about 5 years ago, before him or I knew about the "max time" it should take.
He did call once, and if I recall correctly, the reason he got was "there is only one guy who does the permit applications, and he only works on them one day a week". No idea how true that is or not. My brother put his in at the same time as my friend (they took the class together) and my brother got his back in about 4 or 5 weeks (from a different town). |
| Any time after 8 weeks it's almost like they denied you. and you should treat it as such. get i touch with Rich and he will be more than happy to help you get your permit ASAP. Don't let the LEO push you around. there are laws and everyone needs to follow them. This is just what I would do. Or you could just wait, and see what happens. |
| The DPS is running all of the background checks for every agency and department in the state. I had to wait for the DPS to run me before I could join my local Volunteer Fire Department. Took them over two months to get back to my Department with the all clear. So, it isn't just Pistol Permit applications that they drag their feet with. They annoy everyone equally. Biggest difference is, as Pistol Permit applicants, you give them a check that they cash months before they run the check. I didn't have to pay for my background check this time, but it was almost as annoying. |
