I grew up in Milford, I have been stationed in Nebraska for almost 9 years now. If i decide to move back home, what do i have to do with my rifles, basically, none of mine meet the req that ct askes for. hell, all three of my ar's dont, i have an AK and a bunch of other stuff
would i be forced to sell them?? |

When somebody answers this thoroughly, it should be tacked to the top of the page.
Gonna have to pin your stocks and brakes. (unless its pre-ban) I don't know about the AK. Somebody will be along to give you a real answer. I'll probably say something incorrect so Im going to shut up now. |

I guess the reason that i ask is because evertime i go home to visit my parents i check out the gun shops. It seems like (especially K5) in milford has quite the variety of guns, granted i havent held or played with them but if i remember right they have guns with all the "evil" features.
thank god that i Ruger Mini-14 with the pistol grip, folding stock, flash hider, drum magazin (and standard 30s) plus a bunch more goodies is a pre ban from CT that i got from my dad! still registered under his name too i believe. |

Start by reviewing this page which has all of the major firearms statutes. In particular the Assault Weapon Definition which details the banned by name firearms along with banning all AK-47 type firearms (all AK's chambered in 7.62x39).
The following is for information purposes only, its up the the reader to see the links previously mentioned and understand the firearms laws of this state. Basically no banned by name firearms. Any firearm that is a post ban semi automatic, magazine fed firearm, must be neutered. If it has a pistol grip that is one of your two evil features right there so you need to pin a muzzle brake on the threaded barrel and grind off any bayonet lug nuts if any, along with pinning a collapsible or folding stock. If your semi auto magazine fed firearm is pre ban and its not banned by name then all the evil features are good to go. Note also that the AWB also includes a pistol and semiautomatic shotgun section too so you need to make sure you don't run into that if you have a post ban semi auto shotgun or a post ban SBR rifle that has a barrel shorter than 12 inches that runs afoul of the AWB. One can move into this state with any legally owned pistols, no pistol permit needed, However once in this state you cannot carry your handguns outside of your home/business without a pistol permit. You cannot buy a handgun unless you have a pistol permit or eligibility certificate. We do not have a magazine ban. If you have the time, apply for an out of state pistol permit, they are easier and quicker to get than instate (in most cases). Once you move here simply notify the state of your new address and then you can carry (and I assume buy) here. Others will be along to fless out any more information that either I or other posters have forgotten to list. Edit to Add: I noticed the OP mentioned a folding Mini-14, check your version because there is one type of pre ban mini-14 that is banned by name; the "Ruger Mini-14/5F folding stock model". |
| So once my pistols are secure in my home, they can never leave till i get a CT CCW? that sucks. im so used to the laws ::cough:: i mean NO laws here in NE besides the typical CCW laws even though im a CCW holder. wow this is gonna hurt. I have so much money into my guns and looks like im fucked if i move back....fml |

Note that we DO NOT have a CCW permit, rather the CT permit is a "pistol permit". Method of carry is NOT mentioned on the permit, nor specified in the CT law statutes. CT does NOT recognise any other state's carry permit. If you have time apply for a non resident CT pistol permit, takes about 8 weeks to get. With a non resident CT permit you can carry here but cannot buy until you move into this state and change the permits address.
If you do not have a CT pistol permit then your handguns must stay at home or at your business. There are very narrow exceptions to the no carry without a permit, see the relevant statutes found in the links above. Edit to add: CT is actually a pretty good state compared to NJ, NY, and MA when it comes to firearms laws and what is allowed and what isn't. Biggest hassle is ensuring your semi auto rifles are AWB complaint and are not banned by name. Unlike other states you don't need a pistol permit to have legally obtained handguns at one's home or business. |

Get your pistol permit now, it will be easier to get one as a non-resident.
If your AK is 7.62x39 it's a no go. Unless the AR's are preban, they need have the stock and muzzle brake pinned, and bayonet lug removed. We have not had a drive by bayoneting since the law went into effect, it is a very effective law. My advice is to go around in NE and try to find some preban lowers/rifles to replace you AR's, and get your non-res permit. |

Out of state residents may apply for a non resident Connecticut State Pistol Permit. Non residents apply directly to the Connecticut State Police, Special Licensing and Firearms Unit. Call 860-685-8494 to have an application mailed out. http://www.ct.gov/dps/cwp/view.asp?a=2158&q=294502 |

well, im not to worried about that cause my dad has his permit so i would just give it to him to hold on to. does ct have a passing through law? The whole country has a "passing through" law. You really have 90 days after moving in to make try our guns compliant before they are technically in violation of the state AWB. |
