Well, I pulled a job here in naugatuck ct for most of this week...I caught a late flight out of charlotte last night and here I am .
So fellow arf0commers .... What to do what to see ...

Added note - I never got groped or a body scan , and it looks as if all my tools made it here... I'll check the inventory list to confirm that someone in the tsa doesn't have sticky fingers (it has happened before)

Well in Hartford- maybe 30 minutes away- is the Colt Collection up where our state supreme court is located and its free. The Mark Twain house and library is also up there if you fancy that kind of stuff.

I live here. Not much to do.

Some good places to eat:

Als Hot Dogs-on S. Main Street
Tequila Grill-Church Street
Two best Chinese places in town are New China on Church Street or China Town on Rubber Ave.
Pizza, youll want Marios on Cherry Street(dont deliver) or Adriannas on Spring St. (will deliver).
American Pie on New Haven Rd has good Italian food but I dont like their pizza. Paesanos on Rubber Ave also good Italian.
Theres a mediocre Thai place on Church Street and new Vietnamese place on Rubber Ave, although I havent tried the Viet place yet.
And youll def have to go to Nardellis for a grinder. Voted #1 in the state and theyve been on the travel channel. Never dissapointed with the food from there. Theyre on Maple St.
If youre willing to travel a bit, Crossroad Cantina in Waterbury is pretty good. Plus all the chain places and the mall in Waterbury.

Things to do:

We have a range, but its only open to the public on the weekends. And they dont have rental guns or targets/ammo. So if youre still here come the weekend, if you actually brought a firearm you can go do that.

You can hike the Naugatuck State Forest/High Rock or Hop Brook Lake area.

Otherwise you have to travel, Waterbury has 2 movie theaters, pool halls(although most are kinda shitty and ghetto) and the mall.

The AR store is Jo-Jo's Gunworks off exit 32 on 84- maybe 20 minutes from naugy. You can find their info on the internet.

Small shop but good people- they do tons of custom work in ARs and their real specialty is 1911 platforms. I have a Commander they did for me that is just smooth now- ceracoated olive drab frame, deep blue slide, Wilson combat internals, Kart NM barrel, recheckered front strap, heinie tritiums, agressive grips, etc. Topped off by 3 WC 47D mags now stuffed with WC 200gr XTP rounds.

They always have a couple of their 1911s in the showcase.

Look up a restaurant Maggie McFly's in Middlebury.  Haven't been there in a long time but they had a band towards weekend, good atmosphere and food.  "Chris" at Bethany Gun Shop in Bethany, CT is small but good pricing just have to check on hours open.

New Haven can be good for restaurants, especially pizza.

Maybe some live music, too.

Some crime concerns and parking concerns.

Hello and welcome to CT. Since you are going to be in New Haven, you should contact one of Toni Walker's constituents, maybe they will take you on a drive-by or something..

And yea, a whole grinder from one of the old-line local italian joints would feed me and my wife lunch and dinner for two and a half days back in the poor days.

i was standing there, and the guy behind the counter asked what i wanted ... i'm sure he was going to ask me next to stop drooling on the floor ... it was a hard choice, lots of stuff look good, i just could'nt make up my mind. the meatball parm looked tasty, i might hit it again tomorrow.

as an added note - when you say huge, what you realy mean to say is a 3 lb sandwich .... damm .... i could by 3 of those things and feed a whole crew of roughneck oil rig workers

actualy .... more then you know I was born and raised in MA, moved with a job transfer back in 92. i was dating a girl from bedford NH when i was @ UNH, she got accecpted to UCONN in hartford the following year, so every other week or so i was down there.
my current job keeps me bouncing all over the place, i have a house and wife in NC and it's a great place to visit .... i live in hotels
the hoggie/sub/grinder - steak and cheese/cheese steak thing was a personal joke, a few weeks ago i was in PA, and got the look and was told "you ain't from around here are ya" when i called it anything but a hoggie.
my wife is a GA girl, and she "fixes" everything ... she "fixes" me coffee, she will "fix" you dinner ... hell when i first moved south when someone said that they would "fix" me coffee, i thought she needed to fix the coffee maker ... then again, the first time someone offered me grits, i said "sure, i like trying new things, throw a couple on the plate" when my order came to the table, i was wondering why people in the south eat wallpaper paste .... after being in the south since 92ish, dating my wife for 5 years, and being married for the same, her family still refers to me as " that damm yankee" .... but then again, if it pisses them off, so much the better

Naugatuck pizza is NOT New Haven pizza. Go to wooster street and eat real pizza that's been voted best in the country numerous times.

nope, I'm out of here tomorrow .... back to gods country I've been busy hitting the job pretty hard, I have my little girls birthday party to get to on sat.

I was scheduled to leave today, but crap happens. I'm not an exterminator .... but I believe that you're insinuating that Waterbury is less then a desirable place to be ? trust me I've been to worse, Camden NJ for example ... east st Louis ... Detroit .. flint ...Trenton...Philly....Atlanta....Kansas city ... little rock....any place out side the tourist areas of Mexico....the full list will take awhile to type...

I do mechanical integrity / NDT inspections / failure analysis and engineering... it keeps me busy. last year I spent about 200 nights in a hotel, both inside and outside of the country .... but hell it pays the bills right .. actually it's not a bad gig at all, the travel will get to you every once and awhile though, and it only works with a strong, independent minded, and faithful wife back at the house.

anyhow folks, thanks for all the info, I'll hit ya up again if I get back this way.
