I found a decent looking DPMS Preban Lower for 500.

Worth it?

Serial Number is 10370, 70 above the list of preban, however he states he has a letter with DPMS letterhead stating it was made in August of 94.

What's the deal with this?

If DPMS says so...I paid $450  for one 2 years ago FWIW.  You could also check with DPMS, I know of nothing that would make being 70 away from the cutoff any different than 2000 away...

So is DPMS a good lower to have? I plan to SBR it, I don't care if it'll lower the price, I never plan to resell it. Just want to know if DPMS is decent, or if I should try and wait for another preban.

I saw that one on gunbroker too.I would confirm that with DPMS myself before I took his word for it.Anyone can make a fake letter up and turn there $50.00 used lower into a $500.00 used lower.Alot of dishonest people out there.

Solid advice here.

I called about a DPMS lower once and the folks there were very helpful.  I believe DPMS bought Essential Arms around the time of the ban and DPMS pre-bans look nearly identical to EA J-15 pre-ban lowers.  I think they are the same thing.  If an essential arms is good enough for you, than a DPMS should be fine too.  FWIW, the DPMS finish looked a bit better than the Essential grey that doesn't match anything.

$500 seems to be the going rate, though you can find them for less if you are looking a lot.

The serial # is 10370.  I understood the cutoff to be 10300.

Yes, this was my main concern, I plan to call DPMS tomorrow morning to verify it is indeed preban. I have been looking high and low for a preban since last Decemember and can't find a cheap one to save my life

DPMS also replies to emails pretty quickly too. Then you have written confirmation.

Well, ok, in a sense the cast lowers don't have the ears to break off, but some would argue that forged is the only way to go.  In reality ( I have no background in metallurgy) there really is no difference unless you plan on dragging it into combat for the next 20 years...alot of things will fail before a lower, enlarged holes can be fixed as well as loose uppers...but here is the question from the attorney in me...where are you going to have a SBR that you need to have a pre-ban lower?  I see you are in PA, which suggests you are planning to visit either NY or CT?  NY does not allow SBRs of any sort...so CT?

Trust but verify.  It's probably legit, but check it out all the same.

What are you considering cheap?  $400?  350?

Yes sir, you are correct. My Fiancee was accepted into Yale for her PhD, so I will be moving up to CT next year. I currently have an SBR on a form 1, and I did not want to convert it to conform to the ban up in CT, so I decided to get a preban lower and register it, then put my current parts on the preban lower, and turn my non-preban lower into an SPR, ban compliant.

My biggest concern (other then it being an actual preban) is it being cast vs forged, however I have been looking for a preban for a while, and nothing is even close to my range due to me being a poor college student. 500 dollars is still pushing it for me, but I can't seem to find anything even close to that in my range, so I'll take anything I can get, casted or forged. It may not be what I want, but it's what I can afford.

I figure if he has paperwork to back it up, he's most likely not pulling my leg, however I don't want to dump money into something for it to be useless.

Thusfar in my little over a year of looking for a preban, I've only been able to find one under the 500 dollar range, a PWA for 350, I should've jumped on it, but I didn't have the money at the time, so thats gone, and this is the first I have been able to find a lower at the 500 dollar range, so far I've only been able to find them in the 650-700 range, and complete guns from 1000-1500, WAY beyond my price range, even if I saved for 4 months. I'm afraid I won't find another lower for this price again in a while, so I'm half willing to get it...

Here is a BIG tip for you.

Get your CT pistol permit NOW as a non resident. When you move to CT you will only have to change your address to make it a resident permit.
This will save you a lot of time and some money.

Yes sir, currently in the process.

Thank you though!

There an ad in the old EE for an Eagle Arms right now. It's about hundred bucks more plus whatever the transfer is.

I personally would look at spending a bit more money for something nicer to use on an SBR.

I don't think you'll regret it, long term and you'll always be able to get your money back.

Unless there's some incredible hope that our AWB gets challenged.

Anyway good look there's been some PWA's in the 500 range as of recently too.

Can you point me to the old EE? I have no idea where it is, and don't see any prebans on the EE for under 675.

Sure I don't know if I can post this per rules but...Here it is 625 shipped plus I'm guessing 20 bucks for your transfer. I paid 700 otd for a PWA complete lower last year and I'm glad I went the preban route.

So, what's the verdict?  Was it legit?  Did you win the auction?

Nope, I'm guessing someone saw this add and bought it, it ended shortly after this posted.
