For those in the area of Avon, CT they have some bulk packs of federal 22lr in stock for $19. That's the best I've seen in a while and they had a fair bit in stock. Getting service was a pain but eventually I got some one to open it.

Are these the Federal 550 packs that were $13 last year?

yup, lol. the plated bullet ones. But since these days I rarely see any under $20, if I see any at all, I figured I'd mention it.

Didn't know they had a key to open that stuff up.

Nothing like seeing a cage full of ammo and having the Walmart counter drone say "Sorry, we cannot find the key to open it up." Had it happen to me twice in the past year. All kinds of frustrated seeing that they actually had ammo but then being lockblocked by a missing key.

Well, if you're patient, just tell them to keep calling up the chain. There will be someone with a key. An ops manager or asst store manager, the store manager...  there's pretty much always going to be someone in the store with a set of keys to everything. Big box stores basically treat it as an inviolate rule.

I used some of that ammo today, found that it was pretty darn reliable in my conversions. Accuracy wasn't tested but seemed decent, I was shooting at fairly small steel targets so I can't exactly give a group size. If they still have some next time I'm out there I'll be buying some more. It might be higher than it was but it's not any worse than ordering online generally.

Funny things is I did that. Both times they couldn't find the key. First time it happened was the West Haven Walmart on a Saturday morning. Guy claimed that the person the night before took the keys home and they couldn't find that person the next morning to get them to return the keys. Second time was at another store down in Norwalk and the guy claimed he was new and no one knew where the keys were. Both times I stood there with money in hand waiting for over 30 minutes. The assistant store managers were of no help in either case. I no longer spend money in either of those stores which is what I told everyone involved as I walked out empty handed.

I guess being clean cut just doesn't cut it anymore in Walmart.

wow, that's insane. pathetic but I guess that's walmart for ya. I try to avoid the place but sometimes it IS the right store for the job.
