Just bought a barely used DSA SA 58 a few weeks back.......but after pulling it apart somewhat, I would love to buy a cheap surplus kit and take a stab a building one up.  I notice a lot of similarities with new AR piston uppers and the adjustable system that the FAL uses.  Guess there are only so many ways to skin a cat........

Built this G1 a couple years back. The stock is from Ironwood, the receiver is DSA and I did the parkerizing myself. I've built a couple of others but no pics of them.

The days of the cheap kits are long gone. A few years back I got a STG-58 kit for $350 from FSE and I thought that was about $150 too much. Now they show on their web site STG-58 kits for $750..

Oops, I forgot to add the link to FSE.. http://www.fseusa.com/index.php?cPath=103

In my best "old man voice",  "Heck I remember back in the day when there were a "two-for" at some places.  They couldn't give 'em away, by crackie!" .

Remember when Tapco had ALL the parts necessary for 922r compliance and also sold beautiful stock wood?  I was one of the 5 guys who bought a pristine set from New Zealand which had the pretty brass stock disk inset in the butt that had the rack number position imprinted.  Those were the days!

You can still build one.  The real issue, I think, will be finding the correct breaching washer for an L1A1 when you go to install the barrel.  Guys had buckets of 'em back when but you'd have to beg for them today.  I never built a metric version, however . They seem to be the ones out there mostly today and you can't get them with original barrels anymore, if I'm correct.  $750 for a kit?? In their dreams.  Unless you're determined to diy, I'd think that buying a working shooter would be the way to go and then mod it to the configuration you'd like to see.

I believe that I saw that CAI had some receivers.  Don't recall if they were inch or metrics or generic.

Got two receivers on the way.

Got a builder lined up.  Got half of the US parts.  Hopefully, should have the kits to the builder by mid spring.
