well, i'm a day late, so i won't bother telling you what to do in portland. when you are in hartford though, take the sisson ave exit off 84. when you get to the bottom of the exit you will come to a set of lights. if you take a left there and head up 1 block to the next light, there is a bar and resturaunt called "wood n tap" just through the intersection on the right. great food. however, i HIGHLY suggest you take a right at the light, and head up sisson ave until you hit farmington ave (about 1/2 mile). there is a light and you will have to turn left or right there, you can't go through. anyhow, find a place to park, and head back down sisson just a little. there is a small irish pub there called "the half door". they've got a little outdoor patio. great place (i used to work there), and great food. order the "rover". you'll thank me later. from there, you can take a right on farmington, and it'll take you right into the center of hartford. |

Ok, well I got some good places to eat. We are going to the Red Sox game on Sunday, if we can get tickets, we are heading to boston right now, and we are going to take the 1 down there, so we dont have to hit toll roads, we were staying at the Portland West Holiday inn, and I over heard 2 guys talking about ACOGS, last night, that wouldnt happen to be an ARFCOMMER would it? I figure with all the obama stickers around, there would be a few arfcommers.
We also will be going through Rhode Island and want to stop somewhere.... Any other suggestions.. |

You'll want to stop at the Springfield Armory National Park.
http://www.nps.gov/spar There you'll have a chance to see some of the most historical weapons known. Also, there is the last remaining "rifle organ" in the united states. It's FREE! This place goes back to when Washington was alive and is just North of the Connecticut border. As you drive down to hartford, stay on the Mass Pike (don't get on Rt 84) and just get off in Springfield, MA. See the museum, then head South on Rt 91 to Hartford. IT's a direct shot. Don't miss this place as there's tough times ahead for it financially but it is a full-blown National Park full of the most wonderful firearms. Rome |

You might want to take in as much of the ocean/waterfront as you can...
Stop in Newport, RI and have a beer - see http://www.gonewport.com/ Just a bit farther, on the CT shore, take a tour of the USS Nautilus submarine http://www.ussnautilus.org/aboutus.shtml or check out Mystic Seaport http://www.mysticseaport.org/ (for a touristy stop)... You probably don't need to hit the casinos in that neighborhood (although they are nice destinations in and of themselves)... http://www.mohegansun.com/gateway/index.html and http://www.foxwoods.com/ |

Also, there is the last remaining "rifle organ" in the united states. It's FREE! This place goes back to when Washington was alive and is just North of the Connecticut border. On the way out there is a place for voluntary donations. I always tried to give at least a fiver but given the financial jam they're in I couldn't in good conscience go less than ten now. It's really worth it. |
