Someone told me this weekend that they had a problem getting their permit because they didn't include motor vehicle violations in the question about convictions. I pulled up one of the DPS-799-C's and while it doesn't specifically say to not include them (many forms specify) I can't imagine that the Department of Public Safety really gives a crap that someone got a speeding ticket in 1991. Here's the question from the form... "Have you ever been CONVICTED under the laws of this state, federal law or the laws of another jurisdiction?" BS? |

the only "convictions" that they care about, are the ones that would or may have any bearing on your ability to own a firearm at all. a conviction for speeding doesn't matter. a conviction for vehicular manslaughter probably will, but again will also likely have an impact on your ability to OWN a firearm at all. |

If they ask if you have ever been convicted of a crime, they mean criminal offenses. Motor vehicle laws are infractions, not criminal offenses. If they ask you have you ever been convicted of any motor vehicle infractions, and you dont list it, then you are not being honest. |
If he had a problem getting his permit, it wasn't due to the DMV. |
