I am planning on driving from CT to NH. I have a LTC in CT and NH. Can I legally transport a handgun through MA as long as I dont stop there? Pistola will be unloaded and locked in a container in the trunk.

According to Federal law, YES. Accoring to MA NO. Print out a copy of the federal law, and keep it with you. Keep the pistol boxed, unloaded and locked through mass.

MA is perfectly OK with this, as long as you follow FOPA rules for transport.

MA recognizes Federal Law on this. Otherwise you can't bring a handgun into MA for any reason (w/o MA LTC) EXCEPT a competition or attending a gun show/exhibition.

regardless of what MA "says", they really don't have a choice. transport per federal law, don't stop for more then a quick break, and you'll be fine.

tell that to the last guy that made the news when his "ASSAULT WEAPON" got him arrested as he was passing through from RI to NH.....  Just saying to bring a copy of the law along with you. I'm not saying if you were arrested it wouldnt be thrown out in court, but not worth the hassel for sure! Some people just dont know the federal law exists. What a shame this is we go through all this crap to do everything legal. It really is a shame. Joe Pants-Low does everything illegal any ways. Criminals arent going to follow the laws, the only people the laws hurt is the honest man....

i'm not saying there isn't a *chance* he'll be hassled, or not to be prepared. but if he ends up in the clink over it, he's just hit pay-day. FOPA applies to everyone, regardless of what MA, NY, and NJ happen to think, and if one of these cases ever goes to court, the respective state will have to raise taxes to pay the settlement.

Stop in Enfield for a break, then 55 miles obeying the speed limit up I-91 through Mass.  The super duper new VT Welcome Center is only 6 miles into VT for your next pitstop.  No problemo.

Of course if you are going to Eastern NH, that's a lot of frost heaved back roads once you cross the river to NH at Brattleboro.

I have transported "assault weapons" and pistols from VT to CT more times than I can count. I have been pulled over with them in my trunk as well. The cop never asked if I had them and frankly he didn't need to know even if he had asked. They should have no reason to search your car if you are just speeding so just take it easy, go with traffic and relax. Bringing a copy of that law with you can't hurt though.

Big +1 on this. Just print up the law and keep it handy.
