as long as it's permanently attached and you don't have a bayonet lug or folding stock, you're good to go with an AK brake.

Excellent. Thanks.

With removal of the bayonet lug, does grinding of the "ears" off suffice instead of removing the portion that also holds the cleaning rod?

That's a good question.. If you look at the current product Century Arms Wasr-2 or 3's
They still have a bayo-lug in a way..If you look at it closely they have rounded it off a little so a bayonet will not snap on.. On an Ak-74 variant the bayo lug also holds the cleaning rod in.. If I was to do a build you may be wise to grind it completely off just to be safe side.. adding the brake will help hold the cleaning rod down if you like the way the rifles looks with the rod attached..

Only the 7.62x39mm AK's.
5.56 or 5.45 (or .22) are OK in postban config.

Make sure that adding the break does not put you over the foreign parts count in your rifle, or use a US made break.
