I called today, her aide was very nice and did not seem to be aware of this bill.

CALL NOW OPPOSE "raised bill" SB 304- An Act Concerning Colored Handguns"

(LCO# 1834) Submitted by Public Safety

Bill would ban POSSESSION (no grandfather clause) of handguns colored other than "black" "chrome" "military camel" or "gray" - -  what about the guns made over the past 100 years that are technically BLUE???. Who is to interpret the color?? Another "back door" gun grab scheme. Don't ignore it. CALL TODAY!!!

This is FUBAR!

Just called Gov. Rells office. The aide seemed like she now knows about the bill. She seemed a little annoyed, like not this again. Sos hopefully everyone is calling. If you aren't.... CALL NOW, we need to kill this bill. With the the help of CCS and hopefully many people calling the Governor's office, they state will see how this is an unpopular and incorrecct bill. Get on that phone, only takes about 30 seconds.

Good job pj.... keep the pressure on.

Everyone, get all your pro gun family members, friends and co-workers to call.

You need to CALL not e-mail, not write letters CALL

It is CALLING that ties up stafff resources - like Gov. Rell's aide or the aides who handle the phone calls to the legislators.

When they get tied up answering phone calls as they are obligated and PAID to do..... it takes time away from other tasks they need to do. Therefore, this gets the attention of the OFFICE MANAGER who then tells the Governor (or legislator) "We'd better pressure the asshole who sponsored this bill to kill it now so the phones stop ringing"

THAT IS WHAT WORKS pure and simple.

Keep on dialing.

Do you mean "bump?"

If you have one post in a thread, it is tagged, so you don't have to keep "tagging" it.

I called Gov. Rell's office and told the aide that I do not belive that we should discriminate against anything based on color.

ETA- Oops my error.

Oh, by the way, the raised bill does not prohibit current ownership of colored guns, just sale and transfer of the gun.  So it becomes worthless.

Reread the bill, it does ban possession of colored guns with no mention of a grandfather clause :

"AN ACT CONCERNING COLORED HANDGUNS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2006) (a) No person shall manufacture, distribute, transport or import into the state, POSSESS, offer or expose for sale or give away any handgun that is coated with a color other than chrome, military camel, black, gray or nickel."

"Statement of Purpose:
To ban the possession , manufacture or sale of handguns that are coated with various colors."

Desert Tan, methinks.

It is much less deadly than OD green, for example.  It must be banned!  (For the children)

When I called Rell's office, her associate had no idea what the bill was about. She heard about it because of us calling, but she didn't have any details.

What idot state rep introduced this?

They won't tell us.

All we know is the bill was introduced by "PS" = Public Safety.

No one has listed their name on it like you see in US Congressional Bills "Introduced by Mr./Mrs. _____
of______(name of state)

A recent email sent out from CCS states the bill was lobbied for by the CT Chiefs of Police Assoc.
with alleged backing by the Brady Bunch - yet CCS could find no evidence of that.

Multiple phone calls to various pro gun legislators at the State Capitol have thus far yielded no
information about this bill.

I politely expressed "my opposition" to the bill.

They generally will not comment on bills they support if a constituent calls in opposition.

I'll have a "shill" call sounding favorable and see what kind of response is given.

Remember, Rell quoted anti gun rep. Mike Lawlor stating she supports "closing loopholes"
(that means banning guns: handguns, AR clones, etc., piecemeal, any way they can)

What we need are overwhelming phone calls in opposition - not just one guy from each club.

That is what will kill the bill

Ultimately most politicians will withdraw campaigning for something they perceive as politically unpopular.

This is how we defeated the 2001 "CA part 2" ban that was proposed in CT that would have banned AR clones, hi cpa mags and M-1As

LOOKS LIKE THE BILL IS DEAD FOR NOW!!!!!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CALLS AND REMAIN VIGILANT

NO BILL IS TRULY "DEAD" UNTIL THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION ENDS IN JUNE

From: CCS

To: Undisclosed-Recipient@,
Subject: GUNS-PUBLIC SAFETY Comm JF (Joint Favorable) deadline Cancelled
Date: Thu, 9 Mar 2006 08:59:47 -0500
All remaining bills in the PUBLIC SAFETY AND SECURITY committee are effectively DEAD. Those of interest to us are:
Raised S.B. No. 304 AN ACT CONCERNING COLORED HANDGUNS. Public Safety and Security Committee. To ban the possession, manufacture or sale of handguns that are coated with various colors. OPPOSE.

Raised S.B. No. 307 AN ACT CONCERNING TEMPORARY STATE PISTOL PERMITS. Public Safety and Security Committee. To require specific information in pistol permit applications.

Proposed H.B. No. 5116 AN ACT APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR A FIREARMS TRAFFICKING TASK FORCE. Introduced by: Rep. Robert M. Ward, 86th Dist.; Rep. Lawrence F. Cafero, 142nd Dist.; Rep. Claudia M. Powers, 151st Dist. To reinstate the state-wide firearm trafficking task force in order to focus law enforcement efforts and resources on the eradication of illegal firearms trafficking in this state. Referred to Joint Committee on Public Safety and Security 02/15. SUPPORT  Expect to see this bill included in other legislation.

The  Public Safety JF (Joint Favorable) deadline meeting today Thursday, March 9, was cancelled and no further action taken on these bills. We knew of this possibility on Tuesday but unsubstantiated information will not be disseminated by us until factual. Thank the members of the Committee for their work.
