A week at a training institute, courtesy of my employer, will be mine soon.  (This is a good thing.)

So what should Briskette and I do while I'm not in class?  We already know to leave the...equipment...at home.

Thanks much.

Pay a visit to the indian casinos.  You don't need to gamble to have a good time.  Do a google for Foxwoods Casino and Mohegan Sun Casino and check out the entertainmanet and resturants.  It's fun to put a few quarters in the slots.  The last few times I went my wife won enough to cover the cost of the night out.

I lived in Niantic for a while on Black Point Beach. Kind of a booring area but if you are here when we go out shooting give me a call and we could hook up. When are you coming? and for how long? We go to a private land farm and shoot metal plates. Really good group of guys.

I ove Niantic, in the summer, but dont really know about the winter. It is a great place to fish, and has a couple of charter boats, but I dont think any of them are ruuning now, with the exception of maybe a cod trip. Niantic bay just built a really nce boardwalk, nothing on it, but if you want to take a realy nice seneic walk, its a great place to.

I'm a native.

If you call 911 and need a fire truck or ambulance, you can talk to me.

When are you coming up? There's not really a lot to do in town in the winter. But if you come in warmer weather, you can visit rocky neck state park on west main street, or go for a hike in Nehantic State Forest on Grassy Hill Road. If you go in on Holmes Road, there are a few abandond CCC buildings tucked back behind one of the yellow gates. Pretty cool.

In the summer, you can get on a charter boat just across the bridge in Waterford, and hit bluefish.

You can walk the boardwalk, which is accesable on main street across the street from McDonalds. It's a nice view, with the wonderful scenery of a nuclear power plant across the bay. If you're hungry, hit Constantine's Restaraunt on Main Street. If you want to see a good live band, check and see if Wicked Peach is playing at Burke's Tavern on Hope St.

Things to do around the area - Mystic is nice; lots of little shops and good restaraunts. If you're there and want to hit an irish bar go to the Harp And Hound. The Mystic Aquarium and Mystic Seaport, which depicts 19th century sea life, are also fun to visit. Stop by the Sub Museum in Groton.

If you have a day to yourself, Boston is only about 2.5 hours away.

If you head southbound on I-95, there are outlets in Westbrook and Clinton, right off the highway.

When you come up, DO NOT stay at the Morton House, Best Value Inn, or the Niantic Inn. The Sleep Inn is nice, and almost brand new.

Have fun, and if you have any questions, feel free to IM me. And bTW, where are you going to school?

Isn't there a decent Army Surplus store in Niantic?  Thames Army Surplus?

Not a bad shopping trip!  I know I have the store right... I could swear it was in Niantic.

There's actually 2 in Mystic.  One by the bridge, and one in Old Mystic Village.

There was an army/navy surplus store in Niantic but it's been gone for years. Too bad as they had some neat stuff.

The one by the bridge is a pain to park near, though.  The one in Old Mystic Village is where I picked up my 25mm composite ammo can (the one I bought with the intention of turning into a SFF computer case).

Civilian Conservation Corp. They had a big camp there. They also did lots of work at Rocky Neck, including building the Stone Pavilion.

If you are thinking about coming down and checking them out, lM me and i'll tell you how to get there and where to go. They're kinda hard to find.

And KB, i remember that surplus shop. It was on Pennsylvania Avenue.  They had all kinds of stuff. Mom bought me a gas mask there during Desert Storm. It's gone now, and a dollar store sits where it once was.

This whole thread just reminds me what a small world it is.
