Would it be legal to ffl transfer a colt LE6920 into ct? Ive wanted one for the longest but am not too positive since the telestock etc etc. Anyone know the legalities of this? Thanks -TheShining |

Agreed. The answer is NO. The only Colts that are legal in CT are post ban "naked" clones that don't say AR-15 or Sporter on the receiver. Fixed stock, naked muzzle (or pinned comp.) and no bayo lug 16" & 20" post ban models are the only Colt AR clones you can have in CT. CT's '93 ban still applies and the "toothless" 2001 "expansion" (the one that WOULD have given us a CA part 2 ban, but had all the guns removed from the list at the 11th hour), ensured most of the '94 fed ban provisions would still apply in CT in case the fed ban expired. Essentially, CT treats firearms as if the 1994 fed ban still exists with the only exception being no restriction on mag capacity or "restricted" marks. The other minor concession we were forced to agree to was banning the sale of .50 BMG ammo with any incendiary and/or AP properties such as AP, API, APIT and "I" (ball and tracer are NOT banned) in CT. Although that was a tradeoff, the alternative was to take a Cali part 2 ban and the antis have the votes to override a veto in CT. Here's the skinny on CT in a nutshell: Post fed ban style rifles are all ok EXCEPT "AK" replicas in 7.62x39 ONLY; "Thompson Type" and MAC-carbine "type". Those are banned. You can still have AK replicas in .223 and 5.45x39. To the best of my knowledge "Dragunov" resembling replicas such as Romak 3s are unaffected. There is no mag capacity ban and former LEO/GOV'T restricted marked mags are completely legal and sell like hot cakes at every CT gun store. All new rifles have fixed stocks, no bayo lugs and no externally threaded muzzles. (New Garand replicas exempt because they don't use a detachable mag) NO AK clone in 7.62x39 is registerable any more. They all had to be done by Oct. 1 2003. and then only those AK clones sold legally AFTER Oct. 1, 1993 and BEFORE May 8, 2002 were eligible to be registered. There is no .50 ban. The only banned .50 was the Barrett '82 semi (from the original 1993 ban) If some other manufacturer competed with Barrett and came out with a semi-auto .50 - it WILL be legal in CT because the CT '93 ban is model specific in that instance - at least as this is written. (wonder if Armalite is reading/listening) "AR-50S". So few .50s are used on CT ranges the point is moot. Some ranges even have their own .50 bans because of the real overtravel possibility from riccochets or errant shots going over the safety berm. CT ranges border homes often on the same driveway! |

To my knowledge the 6920 doesn't say AR15 on it, so if you take the A2 off and permantly attach a Cav Comp and get a pinned stock and get a decent gun shop who will install these on the new rifle for you ahead of time then I think you'd be good to go. Were it me and it were a private sale I'd ask teh seller to take off the stock and FH and send them directly to me so I could sell them and make some money off of them, that stock alone will pay for the Cav Comp (I got one for 20 bucks off the EE) and the pinned stock which can also be found for 20 if you look on the EE for a good deal, they usually go for 30. Oh yeah, shave the bayonet lug and you're good to go with you're neutered CT legal 6920. Steve |
| Agreed. If it doesn't say AR15 or SPORTER on it, then you can have it in neutered form. Having him send you the upper and buttstock directly and the lower to an FFL would be an option, at which point you could bring the upper to a gunsmith and have a brake welded on and the bayo lug shaved. |

The problem is finding an FFL who will do this for you as it can be a bit of a slippery slope for them. I think you're better off getting it in pieces, have the guy send the upper and the stock direct, then get a competant smith to do the work for you or you can do it yourself. Shaving a lug is easy, silver soldering a brake on, not rocket science either. Then just get the complete lower transfered through the FFL and attach the fixed stock when you get it home and slap the now CT legal upper on her and you're good to go. Steve |
