I just moved down to Manchester from Concord. Is there any sandpits or anyplace to shoot for free?

Thanks

Good luck with that and LMK if you find anything!
I've watched five pits in the last few years close to shooters here in central NH. This is due to slob shooters, development and flat landers moving up here bitching about the noise.

I know of a place in Auburn.. roughly 20min from Manch.

John_E: You in Manch also?

I wasn't even aware that you could do that. I always figured that the pits were property of sand and gravel companies. That said, I don't know of any places right around Manchester either.

Obviously if it's private property and you don't have permission then it's not ok

I would go to a place in Bradford. Its kind of far now though. When I would go up north, I would always go to Bartlett. There is a place off Bear Notch. The Bartlett PD go there to practice. Its to bad there is nothing around here.

Nope, I'm in Meredith.
I shoot at the Pemi just outside of Plymouth most Saturdays but bench shooting and looking at confused shooters with lever actions is getting old.
I miss my sand pits!! And I'd be willing to drive almost anywhere in the state to use one a few times a year.

I realize that I just assumed that all of them were private property.

John E: I'm a member of Pemi as well. Joined last summer, but since I work second shift and most of my off Fridays and on Saturdays, I've yet to make up there and shoot.

It's a nice range and if you show up at 0800 you'll have the place to yourself until 1100. After that time the "is dat un UZI?" crowd shows up and it's time to go. The only exception to this is during hunting season. In September the clean, quiet, organized range goes to hell as the deer hunting crowd blows the cobwebs out of their boom sticks.

I'm in Manchester.

Same here, a couple I used are closed, in one case the last time I went, there were ammo cases all over, beer bottles, broken glass, I was told someone shot up the guys frontend loader....

I used to live up in Enfield NH, there was a good sand pit off of Rt 4a, a bit south of Enfield Center.

Its been at least ten years since I've been there, anyone know if that is still there?

There used to be a good sized pit out in Candia we used to shoot and snowmobile in when I was a kid out there.  I haven't been back there (Candia, not NH) in a while so I'm not sure if it's still there or not.

On an unrelated note, I just got this while visiting family in FL last week.  The artist is from Somerset, NH and will be heading back there and operating in a shop in Portsmouth for the summer through Thanksgiving.
