Has anyone here run the Boston Marathon? I will be coming from the Cleveland, Ohio area to Boston this year to run the marathon. The BAA website has hotels listed all in the downtown Boston area. I'd like to stay out by Hopkinton. Does anyone have any pointers about where to go, not go? TIA. |

Here are some places in the general area of Hopkinton (x21 on I-495). Location - Milford, MA (x20 on I-495) - Courtyard by Marriott - Baymont Inn & Suites - Fairfield Inn - Days Inn - Radison Hotel (x19 on I-495) - Tage Inn (x19 on I-495) At this point in time, I'd expect that all of the above are fully booked, but it's worth a shot. I've never ran in a marathon, but I did work the intersection of x21 at I-495 a number of years (many years ago). The marathon is so big that they recruit volunteers from all the PDs in Eastern MA to help out during the race. All we got "paid" was a free lunch and thanks from the Hopkinton Police Chief after the runners had left town. |

Thanks LenS. I just booked with a Holiday Inn Express in Milford. Hopefully they will be running shuttles to Hopkinton for marathoners. I am intimidated... I have only ever run marathons in the Cleveland area. At most 1000 runners. Being in Hopkinton with 17,000 other runners is worrying me. |

Bob, I wish you all the best on the race. It is a bear to be sure. For many years my Wife and I would stake out a view from Heartbreak Hill (where my Wife's Cousin lives) or by Boston College (where I used to work part-time for the BC PD). [This was after our late Police Chief asked the Hopkinton Police Chief if he'd cover us for any injury/liability while we were working for him during the Marathon. When he responded "NO", our late Chief forbade us from working any more Marathons.] But my Wife's current job doesn't give her the day off so I sneak a peek at the TV occasionally to see the beginning, midpoint and end of the races. Regarding shuttle service, I'd recommend the following: - Check out the Marathon website www.baa.org/BostonMarathon/ - Call the hotel directly and ask them. One or the other should get you an answer to how to get to the race. |
