| Does anyone know of any shooting spots inside the RT 128 area where range restrictions don't apply? Spots where a person can shoot away at reactive targets like cans, plastic jugs, etc and have the blessings of the landowner and/or local police? |
I take it you mean Rte 128 in Massachusetts. Inside Rte 128 (and increasingly, Rte 495), it is almost impossible to find open spaces where one can shoot without the local cops getting phone calls about shooting. MA law specifies, no shooting within 150' of a public way and no shooting within 500' of a dwelling w/o permission. Most open spaces are either industrial parks or nature park space, both of which are impossible for various reasons to shoot on. So, that leaves the only real possibility, joining a gun club. There are many gun clubs in MA, even inside Rte. 128, but all have different rules due to club preferences, local laws and insurance rules on what can be shot at. Mass. Rifle Assoc., the nation's oldest gun club, is in Woburn, just off Rte 128, and has a lot of members and a pretty good rep. Try them at www.massrifle.com www.goal.org has a great listing of clubs at http://www.goal.org/Club/home7.shtml For a small state, with lots of gun grabbers in the suburbs, there sure is a lot of fun shooting going on, nonetheless. Be sure, if you are coming in from out-of-state, you have a non-resident license to use your guns, if you are using them in MA. For ranges open to the public in MA, I don't know of any, perhaps a call to GOAL might help? The number is on their webpage. They are very helpful, and the ONLY pro-gun organization in MA that is effective in holding back the liberals. |
I've been a member of Mass Rifle for a couple of years now; nice facilities and all and about 10 minutes from me, but it would be nice to have a spot where I (we) could enjoy the "fun shoot" type of activities our more fortunate brothers enjoy. I'm also thinking about joining The Reading Rifle and Revolver Club this Spring if only for the 600yd range.
I think a few ranges have days/hours that are open to non-members and the general public; I know the Reading club does (or at least use to). As far as GOAL's assistance; it's probably the kind of thing they'd rather not know about or publisize because of liability issues; someone gets hurt... "What were you doing shooting there"?... "Oh, someone at GOAL told me it was okay".
Unfortunately, that is all too often. |
Inside the two belts(128inner495outer)that 180+*degreed arc around Boston are becoming more n more like NYC for gun laws and obtaining permits, outside 495 it is mucho easier to get ccw. As for open areas inside 495.....--->thats expensive R.E.! NO SHOOTING! its all about the money, why kid yourself<---one of my old siglines
