I checked out the website, sounds like it might grow into a good thing. We, my sis and I, are always saying OKC is in serious need of a place to offer shooting related courses. Much of what I saw on the website I've already gone through, admittedly it was several years ago, but I saw a couple courses that looked interesting to me. I saw several courses that would be interesting for even experienced shooters who have never gone through the NRA system. I started taking US Army Division of Civilian Marksmanship and NRA small bore courses when I was around 14 I think, then went on to qualify in many others in college I would LOVE to see something evolve here in OKC like a Gunsite style training facility. Assuming we could afford to go, I'd love to see my sister go through the NRA Basics programs for pistol and rifle for sure and maybe shotgun.
For your average shooter, this sounds like it should be a very good opportunity overall and for more experienced shooter you could pick and choose whatever tripped your trigger ( couldn't resist, sorry). I hope it grows! The only downfall and its a big one in my opinion is not having a dedicated range operated by the school. Heartland - nice, has actual air conditioning and filtration but its like trying to shoot in your closet. I can't count how many times we've shot there and been struggling for enough room to put our equipment and load magazines. H&H - good sized range but its really only usable a few months out of the year because its brutally, hellishly hot inside as soon as the outside temps hit 75 or above and doesn't change until the outside ambient temps fall under 75 degrees. Also the "ventilation system" lives on paper only, anyone who's shot there more than twice already has black lung. That's not much of an exaggeration because every time I've shot there the inside of my nose is black! Never happened once at Heartland...I know H&H has been remodeling and I heard they actually had real working AC in the new bay but not in the rest, also no word on the ventilation. OKCGC has some some nice areas and might be a good choice but because they have their own activities going on for their members others will always have to take what's left. Tri City- I know nothing about this range other than its a long drive from my house, for others maybe no big deal. Gunworld- I don't know anything about them either. Hopefully, if this works out for these guys they can build their own facility. I'll be routing for them! |

If they have classes on how to shoot Winchester 92s and Colt SAAs, Nden would be a great instructor from having watched all those John Wayne westerns!!!

If this is the new one on Wilshire between Western and Broadway, it should be a great range! There's a new range being built there? There is a warehouse/distribution center/truck depot on Wilshire being remodled into a shooting range. |
