I think my mow just took a shit on me. I just started to mow and it chugged a bit then died. Tried to restart it, heard somethibg sound like a pop and then nothing. Tried to dick with it, it worked for a min but only if i tilted it backwards then i died. Ill dick with it tomorrow and see if i can do anything. In the meantime anyone good with mower engines? I can get a six pack for your troubles

Do what I do....first stare at it like you're really mad, then swear a lot, then talk about replacing it, then kick it really hard (but not hard enough to hurt yourself), then change your tone and say "alright...let's give you another try" and pull the start rope as hard as possible until your heart starts to hurt, then if it starts you mow, if it doesn't start you swear loudly while kicking it, then retrieve closest item that's heavy and begin smashing the mower.  Buy new mower...repeat...

Works every time.

Post up the make, model, and year. Was the pop sound mechanical like something breaking or just backfiring of the combustion?

This is almost exactly what my wife did when she tried to mow while I was at work last weekend!

I would try a new spark plug first.   How old is the gas in the engine, or is it fresh gas (hopefully good gas, not contaminated)?  You might have some trash in the gas tank and it clogged up the low speed jet in the carb.    Try the spark plug first.  Cheap and easy to do.

You can always then dump the gas out of it, on some paper towels and see if there is any junk in the tank.  If so, check you gas can for contamination too.  You might be able to get away with using the gas in the can, if you filter it thru a coffee filter when filling the tank.

Ya its brand new gas, fresh out of the can. i was thinking the spark plug too but when a motor breaks on me my mind flies to worst case scenario

Gasoline turned to varnish and gummed up the float.

Yeah or you sheared a key. With the popping noise and got the engine out of time.

Not gonna be an easy or cheap fix will it

Berrymans will fix it unless the gum/varnish is too thick.
