The lack of revolvers, especially single action, being sold on the local website classifieds?  It's a conspiracy!

There are only two guys that were on this forum that are single action shooters.
Both are big John Wayne fans.
Dad is gone but Nden is still here.

Revolvers are fun, one that is nicely tuned and slicked up is a great pleasure to shoot.

W
Rat, Dad is great shooting double action. I've seen him ring the ram at 200 meters repeatedly shooting double action with a 3" stainlee 357 Smith.
He has a Ruger 45 LC that he is also good with.
He gave me a 6" S&W, a 3" stainless. He gave my cousin a 4" blue 357. He has quite a few more.
He likes revolvers and carries one all the time.
He won't miss if he has to use it.

I'd own several more of them if I had the funds.
my wish list for SA revolvers goes like this:
freedom arms model 83 & 97 in premier (with adjustable sights) & field grade (with fixed sights) with 5 1/2" barrels in 454 casull with spare 45acp cylinders and also a set of same model revolvers in 22lr & 357mag.
ruger vaquero lipsey 44spl in stainless with a 4 5/8" barrel and rosewood grips.
ruger vaquero and blackhawk in 45c with spare 45acp cylinder in stainless with 4 5/8" barrel and rosewood grips
ruger vaquero in 41mag in stainless with 4 5/8" barrel.

of course 5 1/2" barrels would be fine too.

I love revolvers, especially SAA.  I don't have many, yet.....So far I only have a 3" stainless Ruger GP100 357mag (super sweet gun), a Ruger New Vaquero Bisley, stainless, 5.5", 45LC (way cool fun gun) and my pride and joy, my S&W 629 V-Comp 44mag.

I really want a 45LC, stainless, Ruger Blackhawk that's capable of shooting Ruger only loads to pair up with my Henry Big Boy 45LC.  As it stands I can still do that with my New Vaquero but I have to make sure I only have standard pressure ammo within reach.  I'd rather resign the New Vaquero to fun shooting and something a little stronger for outdoor stuff.

So...that and the fact I just like them so I want more.  I get sad when I don't see them in the classifieds.  Cowboy guns are tons of funz!!!  Except the ones with barrels over 5.5"'s, those just don't appeal to me.

sooner state pawn has 2 super blackhawks (one is stainless), a bunch of single action .22lr's (ruger, chiappa, heritage, rohm), a colt new service .45lc, and a uberti 1875 bisley in .45lc.  they also have a couple naa minirevolvers.

I'd stay away from the import saa clones; they're nice but they're a pain in the ass too.

I've got a cimarron saa clone made by uberti in 45c with spare 45acp cylinder and that fucker's broke several times; never had the same issues with a real colt saa.

I did see a Blackhawk at Sooner State but it was a .44 mag and shooting .44 mag rounds in a single action isn't fun for me.  I've tried it and I didn't like it

I won't own foreign SAA clones or lever actions.  I know there are some that are quite good but I prefer my "American West" era guns to be American.  My SAA's are Ruger's which won't change unless I score a Colt !  My lever actions are Winchester and Henry's which I absolutely love both guns.

I've been jonesing like CRAZY lately because I want to shoot my V-Comp sooo bad but I have no ammo .  I've been searching for just regular target .44 mag ammo but haven't found any except overpriced hollow points designed for hunting or match.

Yup but buying a .44 mag to just shoot .44 specials doesn't make sense to me.  However, a 45LC allows all kinds of options.

could always get one of the lipsey rugers in 44spl; seen them in stainless and blued version vaqueros; pretty sure I read somewhere they made the bisley model too.

ETA: the lipsey 44spl is built on the 357mag frame vaquero and blackhawk so you get bigbore in med bore package.

I saw an ad from Colt that they are bringing out improved single action revolvers, they will have re engineered actions with floating firing pins and coil springs.  Catching up with Ruger it seems, there was no note as to whether these new models will replace the current Colts or be available alongside them.  I'm thinking that product liability is catching up to them, and they are probably being forced to bring out new safer single action revolvers.

I've got two of the Ruger New Vaqueros, they are terrific guns, mine were ready for competition merely by installing a Wolff spring kit, fairly easy to do and really makes a huge difference.

[#26]
Wow, that's awesome news if it happens.  I've actually heard people say they didn't like the Rugers because the transfer bar safety wasn't authentic enough.  That kind of thinking is unbelievable.  Imagine living back in the day and either risking an accidental discharge or going with only 5 shots.  Yeah, I know they often used the spare hole to store enough money to cover their costs if they were killed or died but they would have had a safe way to carry six you know they would have jumped on it.  I have no doubt Sam Colt would have done it himself had he thought of it.

If Colt releases a SAA with some kind of safety to allow carrying six I will absolutely buy one.  I still need a .45LC Blackhawk though .

GUNFIGHTERS OF THE OLD WEST

by Norman B. Wiltsey
From the 1967 Gun Digest

"Gunfighter! The word alone has magic. It seems to leap from the printed page to produce a complete image in the reader’s mind. A deserted sun-baked street in a Western town. Horses dozing at hitching rails in front of suddenly quietened saloons. Faces pressed against windows in horrified anticipation, an air of unbearable tension over all. Slowly, from opposite ends of the street, two hard-faced men in big hats and spurs approach each other, hands hovering over low-slung sixguns, eyes locked. One wears a badge, the other is an outlaw. The lawman, being the “good guy,” waits for the other to make his move, then beats him to the draw and guns him down. The timid townsmen rush from their hiding places, shouting, “Are you all right, Marshal?” The noble lawman, gazing down at his defunct adversary, answers quietly, sadly, from the depths of his priceless sense of noblesse oblige. “I’m all right. Take him to Boot Hill and give him a decent burial. He was game. I liked him. I hated to have to kill him.”

"Only one thing is wrong with this picture; it rarely, if ever, happened." ..............................................................................................................................................

Isn't a Glock considered single-action....Just fukin' kidding....I do think John Wayne would've rocked the shit out of a Glock if he'd lasted longer...

As for me...I'be able to go both ways...I can shoot a revolver or auto...I don't give a rat's-ass...so far this year I've bought 3 revolvers but only one auto-pistol...one of the revolvers is a single-action Ruger.

I've been shooting more .44 mag and .38 Special revolver these days.....

a 9mil/357sig is close enough to a 38; and the last I recall advantage arms makes a 22lr conversion kit for glocks.

as for a 1911, that's a given and was not needed to be mentioned.

and if you hunt; the 45acp will do a deer in so if you can shoot your 1911 any at all you'll have deer meat in the freezer; course I guess if you are hunting lions, tigers and bears then a 44mag might be a bit comforting.

I'm kinda chubby, but my moobs aren't big enough to be needing a bra.  Think I'd have to skip the 12th gun.  :P

I love revolvers....I bought a Ruger GP100 3" a couple years ago and man did the revolver bug bite me.  My GP100 is way fun so then I had to go western and got a Ruger New Vaquero which was even more fun.  Then I fell in love with a revolver I saw online and obsessed over it because of the price and the fact they are all but impossible to find until...Christmas 2012 when my BFF gave it to me as a present!! She also gave me a Bond Girls derringer which isn't a revolver but it's still super fun.
