A brand new stripped Loki lower and a new LPK....plus some parts I don't need like a new FN 16" 5.56 barrel and another Loki stripped upper which will be sold sometime in the future.  So, coolness, my Grendel gets her matching lower and it frees up a lower for another project.

She needs to go to the Gremlin forums n check out the magazine issues people have had. I'm bettin its a simple feed lip tweaking issue. I know some 68 guys have had issues with certain mags n with a lil tweakin they've usually fixed their problem.

Nothin like havin a new toy n not really bein able to play with it!

That's why I'd rather have a out of the box functioning 5.56 or BLK rifle and just have a .308 for LR. No need that I can see for going to a funky caliber that is (sometimes) finicky.

Unfortunately I haven't had another opportunity to shoot it.  After talking with Bill Alexander and him looking at all the pics, he was pretty sure it's a mag issue although he recommended polishing the bolt face just a tiny bit.  He suggested polishing the feed lips and stuff and disassembly/clean the mag and then shoot it and see what happens.  I'm almost thinking too much oil in the bcg played a part.  With the Fail Zero nickel boron bcg it should be running slick without much oil.

Until I can score another mag I'm stuck if mine is borked and Bill said it might be awhile until my ordered mags come in.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to sell it or use it to build the lightweight carbine I've considering.  If I sell it, there's already someone who's claimed first dibs so who knows how that's gonna go.

Hey, I wanted to thank you for the Glock part.  I'm holding off installing it until I can get to the range so I'm positive it works correctly.  I really appreciate it

Yeah, Bill Alexander thinks it's mostly a mag problem.  Hopefully polishing the feed lips and cleaning it up will help.  It really does suck when new toys don't work right

There's nothing finicky about the caliber...caliber is caliber.  Magazines not built for the cartridge are the problem.  I have a 5.56 that runs perfectly and I'd rather have a 6.5 Grendel over the .308 any day.

I lost the buffer retainer and spring in my AR one day but put it back together anyway.. We went shooting and it was jamming up. Never had that problem before.
I took it to dad and he took the upper loose and the buffer flew out. He told me that was the problem. He put the buffer retainer back in, reassembled the rifle and it worked fine. You wouldn't think that would cause jams but it did. little stuff can cause problems.
Like Rat, I'll bet it is the mag.

My bff did the same thing with here rifle.  She lost one tiny spring, trip to range results in one very unhappy bff who thought I was FOS when I said it was a tiny spring but after she took it apart she found a little spring missing.  She replaced it and it worked perfectly, lesson learned.  When your dad was helping me build my last lower (well he built and taught as I watched) we had springs trying to escape everywhere lol.  After that night Dan may never help me again lol.

He keeps lots of extra springs nowadays, for all kinds of guns. He has boxes of springs, pins, parts, etc for revolvers, pistols, M14, AK, ARs, etc.
He even has a big magnet to sweep the floor for small parts. My mom almost threw him out of the house when he used it to run over the carpet in his office. He is not supposed to  work on guns at his desk or kitchen table.
Instead he uses the kitchen counter when mom isn't home.

I have had to tweak the feed lips on two of my 6.8 mags and i had to tweak the springs in two of them.  All 4 are supposed to be 15 round mags and I load them all down to ten just to be certain they will function reliably, and I may be interested in the stripped upper if you do decide to sell it and no one else has dibs on it.
2/21/2013 8:47:38 AM EDT
[#13]
I guess I've been lucky on all of my 6.8 mags. I have the older C Products mags along with some ASC mags and the newer CPD mags and none have had any feeding issues. Jackery, it sounds like you need more mags for your 68 if you only have 4 of them.  :)

Ive seen all kinds of problems with the M16/AR15 platform.

I guess ive been lucky in that my only problem so far with either of my ARs was on my first build, I didnt put the trigger spring in right so i had to manually reset the trigger

well when you're mag limited do like was suggested and disassemble and knock all the sharp edges off it, clean it up good and hit the inside of the mag body with dry lube, reassemble and go out to check function.

course it could benefit from a tweeker's touch to the feed lips and follower, idk can only give ideas without actually checking function/issues

Yeah I have two ASC and two PRI mags.  The PRI mags i just had to tweak the spring a bit and they functioned just fine, the ASC mags I had to tweek the feedlips a bit once i did that they work fine with ten rounds but they still tend to jam if I load them to 15.  I wouldnt mind having a few more but I don't really need anything more than the 10 or 15 round mags for my 6.8 as it is heavy enough as it is with the 10 rounds in the mag.

I think I have 10 or 12-25 round mags I still havent tried yet. They're actually still in plastic. I have to go to the range to test out some new loads so i might take the new mags n try them out then.

Picked up the stuff today and as advertised it's all brand spankin' new.  The Loki stripped lower and DPMS LPK shall become one and the RRA NM trigger Dan just installed in my also new Spikes Tactical lower will go into the Loki lower (sorry Dan, up for another lesson?).  So, that leaves me with these:

A NIB Magpul MOE hand guard black - it's value is easy

A NIW Loki stripped upper -

A PSA FN manufactured 16" 5.56mm, 1:7, CMV CL MP barrel - the website description says "16" Mil-spec barrel steel, mid-length gas, A2 profile barrel, chambered in 5.56 NATO, with a 1/7 twist, chrome lined bore and M4 barrel extension made for us right here in Columbia SC by FN Manufacturing.  Barrels are high pressure tested and mag particle inspected".  "PSA 16" CMV 5.56 NATO, Chrome Lined, MP, Premium Barrel".

So, here's my problem...I have no idea what the stripped upper or barrel are worth so if ya'll could give me a serious answer I would appreciate it.  You can send by PM if you prefer.  I'm not sure if I want to sell them or use them for a lightweight carbine project but I need to know their value first.  This isn't an auction so don't give me a low price thinking that what you'd like to pay...I need actual value. Thanks

heres a link to the barrel
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/upper-parts/barrels/psa-16-cmv-5-56-nato-mid-length-heavy-profile-chrome-lined-mp-premium-barrel.html

you don't mention if the barrel is attached to the upper and when you say stripped upper are you saying it is less the forward assist assembly or does it have forward assemble installed and it's less bcg?
but heres a link to psa's uppers in case it's a psa upper:
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/upper-parts/upper-receivers.html

I know the last upper I bought was a yhm with m4 cuts & t-marks and the price was $100 +S&H, the stripped ones were iirc approx $20 less.

don't know what today's market prices are though.
2/24/2013 12:41:00 PM EDT

I do hate gougers but, unfortunately, I had to pay a bit of a premium so I may have to offset that.  If I had paid less I'd sell for less, I'm not interested in screwing over other gun enthusiasts.

The upper is  brand new and unattached.  The interesting thing about it being a Loki is before I've even put it up for sale I've already had four people contact me who've caught word I bought a new Loki upper.  It will most likely sell for more than normal price (normal normal price not normal crazy) which is ok with me.

I saw the info on PSA about the barrel but since they aren't in stock anymore they removed all the prices.  I searched the various buy/sell sites and from what I've seen the barrels are around the $230+ mark but I have no idea how close that is to realistic.

Anywho....I know what I need from the two items so I'll see how it works out.  I gotta balance not losing my butt and not charging any more than I have to.

beats me as to what today prices are; browse gunbroker and other auction sites to see what the items and/or similar items are bringing.
2/25/2013 8:45:26 AM EDT

Brandi, just put the price you want.  If it is fair in today's market it will move and if it is overpriced it will sit.  What one person i willing to spend maybe not what another is willing to.  Like Nden, I have not been looking at prices because I have what I need, a list of what I want--but no money.  Thankfully the stuff I want is not going to be a premium because there are plenty of them from the manufacturer.  Thank the Lord that I was not in the group who panicked bought and will have to sale later to cover bills.  Just saying that in today's climate no one knows what an item will or won't bring.

Damn my procrastinating.  I gotta hit Obi Dan Kenobi to help me put the (hopefully) last lower my Grendel will wear together.  Once that's done and I have another complete lower sitting in the safe I'll have to decide what to do. My bff has informed that she likes shooting my Beowulf so much she wants to use one of the lowers for that.  We'll have to see if that happens or not.  I've been considering building a lightweight carbine to be my primary AR (I've tricked my Colt LE6920 out to the point it may be an awesome rifle but it's also too damn heavy for my crippled but to shoot comfortably with any regularity, plus, I've already bought all the furniture for it.  Which reminds me, I'll be putting some stuff on the EE soon so somebody buy it lol.

The garage is too cold to use for lower building at the moment so once it warms up I'll use the force to contact Jedi Master Dan Kenobi.
