Just a rant, but really?

So yesterday I took a break from working on the car and went to Canadian Ranges. Once I was there I kindly waited until most everyone at the 100 yard range was done firing and asked to go down range. After everyone went down and came back, all 20 or so people started shooting again. I was there to mostly test out different factory loads and while shooting on of my groups... I hear all this yelling and my father quickly pushed my rifle onto saftey while I was about to squeeze the trigger. Some "man" in his mid 30's maybe early 40's decided he would go down and check his targets without checking to do so. We had to stop everyone around us from shooting while this guy was about 25 yards out checking his 50 yard target. About a whole 15 minutes after this happened one of the other men who I had to stop from firing for the other guy decided to do the same thing. So two men who were fully capable of thinking both decided to run down range in hopes of viewing their targets while dodging bullets.

To make things worse... This happens almost every time I go to this range when there are more than just a handful of people there. Luckly no one was hurt, but really? A full grown "Adult" ?? decided to walk down range without anouncing? Maybe range owners should ask every customer, "Before I take your money, are you an idiot?"

And that's why I don't go on weekends.  There is just the

occasional idiot on the weekdays.

We no longer have the draft. Most people never have an introduction to firing range safety or formal rules.
So they are not real bright about safety on a firing range.
Or anything for that matter.

Its been 16-17 years since I went to a public range.  I feel sorry for anyone who has to use one.  There places to go and shoot on gubment land and not deal with public ranges.

Well thats one way for stupid people to get taken out of society.....Heck, people out at Lexington have more sense then that. Then again those people should have all had some sort of gun safety class as well. After readin a few posts like this, it makes me really glad I'm a member at TCGC.

Believe me when I say private ranges such as the OKC Gun Club can be full of pricks too.
I much prefer a gun range that isn't crowded anywhere.

Good point, maybe I shoulda worded it differently. I'm less likely to be surrounded by idiots that dont have common sense at gun ranges by bein a member of a gun range. And yes, a less crowded range is always better!

Dipshits like those are one of the many reasons I prefer to shoot on my own land. Even if I have to drive 2 hrs to get there...

That's one thing I like about the range by my work. Most people don't like all the rules but they keep it safe.

IIRC you get 10 minutes to shoot, no rapid fire, 3 seconds between shots and after the 10 minutes the range master gets on the intercom and tells everyone to unload and safety your weapon, if you have a round in the chamber you can fire it.

Then when everyone has their guns open and unloaded and standing back from their bench he gives the all clear to go check your targets and waits for everyone to get back and do their bench to resume fire.

You sign a waiver when you get there, but he still doesn't tolerate jackassery.

No freakin way I could put up with being treated like this.

Makes me glad all I have to do is walk down to my little range and the only asshole I have to put up with is myself

I like more realistic target practice such as shooting at coyotes out of a truck window.
If you can't find coyotes, there are always signs.

Must be difficult dragging that detached truck door around just to use it as a rifle rest

ETA: I guess it'd be handy if the coyotes started shooting back!

We need to set bag limits on signs around here. I swear the damn things are like crack to some guys with guns

for years I practiced shooting playing cards; got really good at shooting them at some really long ranges (to me that is); when hunting I'd miss a lot of animals, just figured if any of them had a playing card on them they were toast.

There's a stop sign heading North out of town that I wonder just how many times the city is going to replace before they give up and make it a two or three-way stop at the intersection.
