took a look at the kawi vaqueros again earlier this afternoon, turns out you got a color choice of either red or black (don't really care for either color, too many red and black bike on the road as it is), the taller windshield is $85, the optional xm radio $500, touring seat with sissy bar $7??, had some other options but I can't remember what the dude said right now.

almost talked myself into one today, the salesdude was sure trying to.

Did they tell you about the $1250 cash back from Kawasaki?

I like the red. My current bike is black. Living on a gravel road, its really hard to keep it clean.

I'm fond of Kawasaki, but again, living on a gravel road I'm sticking with a shaft drive bike. Seen too many pics of belt and chain drive bikes with issues due to gravel.

Been thinking about adding an older goldwing for traveling. But the Nomad did just fine to North Carolina and back earlier this year. Its paid for too.

Philspel(sp) works at a Kawasaki dealership over by Tulsa somewhere. PM him for a price before you buy.

they had discounts applied, after adding the stuff I'd want it took the price back up, for a bagger that'd see some hwy use it diffenantly needs  the taller windshield, a better seat and sissy bar (I had a chick fall off the back of my bike back in 05' in the parking lot of her employer, and I seen a chick fall off the back of one this past sunday evening, luckly they were only going approx 25mph, the suv behind them like to have hit her though, the dude grabbed her up and they were gone, but I bet she got skinned pretty good since she was wearing cutoffs and a teeshirt and did the asphalt slide of approx 10' to 12').

as for the color I don't care for the red or black, too many bikes on the rode that are red or black, when I bought my current bike I bought the metalic ecru (sp?) with brown pinstrips (it looks like a dark gold color), but it looks good since the frame is black, engine is black then all the brushed aluminum and chrome.

I've owned a lot of chain drive bikes through the years, never an issue with them beside the chains wearing out, usualy good for 20k to 25k miles as long as I took care to keep them oiled/lubed, I know the next bike I buy with either be belt drive to shaft drive, I'm damn tired of chain maintenance on a weekly basis, hell as much as I've been riding this summer I've been doing maintenance two sometimes three times a week.

I've been told that once belts are adjusted they normally don't have to be adjusted for a while and recommended run time is in the 40k to 50k range.

the one shaft drive bike I owned wasn't bad, I think I changed oil out of it when I first bought it (used) then again when I'd put approx 20k miles, sold it not long after that, only thing I didn't care for with it was the ass end felt like it raised up under hard acceleration and it'd chirp the tire every now an then in a sharp corner.

it's most likely going to be next year before I seriously think of getting another bike.

been reading online reviews today about the vaquero, they talk about the great value for what it offers, but also about the gearing and tire size, seems most reviewer's think the gearing is too wide and the front tire too small for a bike it's size, one review said at higher speed it's a bit unstable upfront.

that vulcan 2000 I looked at a few weeks back might be the better deal.

I rode a couple of the Vaqueros when i was in NC earlier this year. Riding with the stock shield about beat me to death. I couldnt hear the dang motor either. Then I jumped on one with the tallest shield. It was much nicer. Had both of them over 80 for a short bit. Both were as stable as any other bike I've ridden. Neither was as comfortable as my Nomad. But I have lots of $$ in parts and pieces to make it fit me better.

I know you do a lot of 2 up riding. I can assure you that you'd need a different seat for the Vaquero to do a lot of 2 up riding. But then all bikes need a lot of $$/stuff to make them ours, dont they?

Have you ridden them yet? Tried Victorys? Hit Morris motorsports in Chickasha and ride both.

Dont 2000s have soft bags and no windshields? More an in town cruiser? The Vaqueros have hard bags, fairings with radios, and cruise control. Way different bikes.

Like i said, I'm sticking with shaft drive.

You know that late fall and winter is the time to buy bikes. Having to sell/trade one in at the same time sucks!

I've ridden a couple of different victory's and a  road glide harley that belonged to people I know, the one victory was a cross street or somesuchshit, it was a cruiser with soft bags with some funky looking faring added to it, the other was a touring bike (don't remember the name) both were damn smooth/nice riders, both the owners said they had added several $k in parts on them setting them up how they wanted.

the road glide was a damn decent ride, sat kind of highup though, plenty of power on tap, the brakes were touchy as hell too, I locked the rearwheel up twice, fuckmefunny I guess it ought to be decent, I think the owner told me he had like $22k tied up in it.

the vulcan 2000 I looked at had a tombstone windshield, highway bars, aftermarket seat with backrests, softbags, running boards front/rear, heel shifter, oversized grips and some other add on stuff, it was a 2010 model, iircc it was $13500.

but yeah, the vaqueros can be had with what I want on them from the getgo, the better seat w/sissy bar (the factory one felt worse than the one on my vulcan) and taller windshield options added $8?? to the price, the xm radio option added an additional $500 to that; don't know if they come standard with running boards for the passenger or not, a couple I looked at had them and others didn't.

the one's I've sat on would probably have to add forward controls at some point, to me they didn't sit/feel too much different from my vulcan besides being taller at the seat, I think the japs designed them for 5' tall people cause the controls are short underneath and you sit up quite a bit,

on my vulcan the short controls wear on me pretty quick, I usualy just drape my feet over the front of the pegs when I'm on the highway so I can strech out my legs a bit.

it won't be this coming winter that I buy, if I do it'll be because I've won the lottery.

Dude, you're shopping for bits and pieces at the dealership? No stinking way!

Seat mods- Mean City Cycles. They work magic. I had them do the $140 special to a stock seat. They can change your position, just let them know.  Of course now I ride a $550 Ultimate seat

For the XM I'd just buy some add on deal for less than $100 off ebay.

The shield is less than a C-note at a couple of different places.

Grasshopper is already making a drivers backrest for it under another C-note.

Worst part about the Vaquero is that they are a new bike, so not much aftermarket support for them yet.

I spend a lot of time on the highways. Most of that time with my feet up on highway pegs. Don't think I'd be able to make it without them.

No way I'd pay $13,500 for a used bike. Or was that one new? After having hard bags, no way I'd ever go back to soft ones

the 2010 vulcan 2000 was brand new, left over from last year, could probably get an even better price on it if some serious negotiation went on, know it would if paying cash

I want hardbags, seen too many people have issues with the softbags, plus I want something I can lock when needed, I get damn tired of having to unhook my gps then carrying it in my pocket, gloves, gear etc

I've always been pretty much a minimalist with my bikes, took the kiss principle to heart, but now I want a simple bike for everyday aorund town riding with a bit of creature comforts when I want to travel a ways.

thinking on back when we used to do three week bike trips waybackwhen, I had a pretty simple bike and we'd ride 800+ miles a day, party all night, sleep a few hours and hit the road again, in three years time we put almost 100k on that bike,

fuckmefunny if I tried that on my bike today I'd only make about 3 days worth then have to rest up for a week, but I have put a bit over 12k on it since april this year, about 5k of that was riding double.

labor day weekend we put 1500miles on, but made lots of stops and smoked a lot of cigarettes.

ETA: that's the kind of bike I'm talking about, it'd never be clean though, I live on a dirt road so it'd be dusty and have red mud caked on it.

Thats why I said that I'd not own another black bike. Damn hard to keep clean living on a gravel road.

Put about 250 miles on it today. Nice day for a ride.

Had the town cop in Waurika follow me from end to end. I expect he was waiting on me to pull over and rape, pillage, and plunder

didn't ride much at all this weekend, short trip to town yesterday morning for breakfast and to mail off bills, while in town it got cloudy and started to drizzle, then it rained and made my reddirt driveway slicker than hell.

fixing to ride into town in a bit for dinner and a couple of 9v batteries for the chirping smoke detectors, fucking noisy bastards are driving me mad.

don't normally spend this much time around the house, did get all the laundry done, swept the floors and cleaned the bathroom.

ETA: try riding through verden and apache, about the only time I don't have a cop following me through town is after 10pm.
