I've got to put up a 1/4 mile fence in the next week or so. I went to price 12.5 ga 4 pt wire and it is $66 to $72 per roll. T-posts are still around $4 for 6.5' but the wire has gotten as high as all get out.
2 pt wire was even higher than 4 pt.

I found some at HD for $59 a roll for 12.5 ga 4 pt.
Not bad compared to Atwoods or Tractor Supply

I'm finishing up a fence that was burnt down three years ago in that fire north of Crescent. I'm going to be out on a tractor and brush hog in the morning so we can stretch the wire. 1/4 mile ain't much, but it's a hell of a lot more than I want to do this time of year.
February and March are when you build or repair fence.

Where are you getting T posts for $4? Around this AO they seem to be running almost $6 a piece... In fact I can buy railroad ties cheaper than I can buy 8 inch creosote posts for the corners...

Same fire that damaged our fence...

Home Depot had the wire for $59.25 (12.5 ga 4 pt) and 6.5' T posts for $3.98.
The coop was higher of course and Atwoods was more too.

The owner of the land where the fire started had all kinds of insurance claims flied against her which paid off.
Marty U....  told the fire dept to let his hay field burn and they told him they couldn't. He got shitty with them and told them he wanted it burnt off.
They got it under control any way.
Then he filed a huge claim for the "loss of pasture".

I'm not "hickorynut" enough to call it "bob" wire, besided Chuck, calling it "Barb" wire just makes it sound better.

it's something how horses are drawn to barbwire like moths to a flame.

I put 10 yards of suture in a horse one night.  Yes that was 10 YARDS.  Damn dogs got him between two wires on top and one on bottom, 3 wire fence, and ran him up and down between posts.  One nasty mess.  He lived.

I had a Tennessee Walker that broke two strands on a fence just rolling. He went from being one friendly horse to being unfriendly (to me anyway) after we tied him up and doctored those cuts. It really wasn't too bad but the ointment we put on them must have stung a bit.
After that, i decided if I was going to ever pasture a horse, I would have an electric wire around the inside of the barb wire.
Or just barbless wire for an inside pasture.

I have about 4,000 feet of land that could use some new fence.  Don't think I'll be buying it any time soon...
