I have to hit about 10 or so graves on Memorial Day week end. I've gotten to 4 so far, 6 more to go.
Kind of sad, kind of glad, etc every time I go. You miss your loved ones but then when you think about their best qualities, it does have a tendency to perk you up. My son Matt and me will visit Old Bud's grave sometime this week end. For some reason, thinking about the crusty ass 106 year old fart makes me laugh. It makes me think about all the good times we had, driving around the country side with a cold beer in our hands, a bucket of chicken livers between us, looking for a coyote to shoot or just seeing deer and turkey. Life is good, boys! Have a great holiday week end! |

It was a good Memorial Day this year. At our first cemetery dad and I ran into a relative he hadn't seen in 40 years. He usually makes his rounds in the afternoons and almost everyone in our family goes in the morning which is why no one has run into him in years. Dad and I didn't get out until the afternoon and that is the only reason we ran into our long lost cousin. All of the family members he had contact information for had passed on so he hasn't talked to anyone in the family for 15 years. We gave him the contact information of my grandmother (his grandmother and mine were sisters), him and dad recalled memories from their childhood, and we went our separate ways. I haven't seen dad that happy on Memorial Day in a long time. It was a good Memorial Day. |
